jimbaby
The clip on youtube is taken from "Live at the quick", which is available on Dvd or Cd, superb playing and a fine recording, Flight of the cosmic hippo is one of my fave test disks for evaluating hifi systems, the title track has some monstrous subterranean bass with the counterpoint of the staccato banjo sound. alibabu
As jimbaby says, "Live at the quick" is a good start, the cd version is of course without the comments that are on the DVD. I also have the "Little worlds" triple cd, with quite varied and interesting music. Great playing all around, although I must admit I am slightly put off by the sound in the electronic drums. Great drummer, and inventive concept, but I think a more organic drum and percussion sound would suit the music even better. If you like Andy Narell (the guy on steel drums), be sure to check out his band "Sakesho", with the great Michael Alibo on bass: http://youtu.be/cpAw75qkBU4 The same Alibo also plays in Sixun, with Paco Sery on drums: http://youtu.be/lnSMDmtOx4s
lowdown
I have lost count of how many BF albums I have. There is everything from out and out Blue Grass to Symphonic stuff. Here is a break down of albums since the 70's, it's worth reading, then going through YouTube etc. there really is a lot of variation. http://belafleck.com/discography/

[/quote] Big Hup for Flight Of The Cosmic Hippo.. this was the first I ever heard of Victor Wooten. Some amazing bass on there, in the context of some really cool music. toneknob
+1 for Live At The Quick, also get Live Art (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_Art). Then when the nights are drawing in, get their Christmas album Jingle All The Way, featuring their take on "The Twelve Days Of Christmas", each "day" has its own instrument and the appropriate time signature, and there's a guest appearance from Mongolian throat singer Kongar-ol Ondar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DtRNRH6nP4
Doddy
I'd start off with 'Greatest Hits of the 20th Century', it's a good overview of their first few albums. There is great stuff on all of their albums but you need to listen to the tune 'Sinister Minister'.
RoRi
'Live Art (2CD)' and 'Outbound'.
jacko
All my suggestions have already been suggested although i will say that Outbound is probably the one I listen to most. i'll also say that I can't listen to Victor outside the Flecktones. toneknob
I've listened to both Live Art and Quick over the weekend and while I love the Flecktones, arne't American audiences terribly impressed at the slightest thing? - Vic plays open E "OH YEAH." - Vic plays pentatonic lick "WOOOOO" - Vic plays bent harmonic *screaming and hollering* - Vic starts Amazing Grace groove, cafe fails to sell out of loaves and fishes
