the hand of john curley Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Hi everyone Currently having a go at my first fretless conversion. Could someone advise me on the best place to get veneers from to insert into the fret gaps? Thanks in advance Matt Quote
leschirons Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 I went to a local wood yard and bought a small damaged and water stained sheet of oak veneer for 2€. As you use so little, its not that important what you use. I did my first fretless using a worktop side strip of melamine. Worked a treat. All down to finish. Didn't Jaco use Polyfilla or something? yorks5stringer Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Just don't use a Dutch masterpiece as it will come in a bit pricy..... Quote
Painy Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 I just used those extra long matches on mine and sanded them flat! Works a treat Quote
Beer of the Bass Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 0.6mm veneer does the job very well. eBay has lots of small packs sold as samples or offcuts for a couple of pounds and you don't need very much of the stuff. Quote
ambient Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 I guess it needs to be a bit narrower than the slot to allow for glue ? I suppose it depends how visible you want the lines too ? 😊 Quote

I find that many of the best bargains come from EBay Quote
