Veneer advice

Hi everyone

Currently having a go at my first fretless conversion. Could someone advise me on the best place to get veneers from to insert into the fret gaps?

I went to a local wood yard and bought a small damaged and water stained sheet of oak veneer for 2€. As you use so little, its not that important what you use. I did my first fretless using a worktop side strip of melamine. Worked a treat. All down to finish.

Didn't Jaco use Polyfilla or something?

Just don't use a Dutch masterpiece as it will come in a bit pricy.....

I just used those extra long matches on mine and sanded them flat! Works a treat

0.6mm veneer does the job very well. eBay has lots of small packs sold as samples or offcuts for a couple of pounds and you don't need very much of the stuff.

I guess it needs to be a bit narrower than the slot to allow for glue ?

I suppose it depends how visible you want the lines too ?

I've used them a few times, but only as a last resort, as they are pretty pricy and their postage costs are very steep IME.
I find that many of the best bargains come from EBay
