timmyo Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 (edited) I have seen one for sale and realise I don't know anything about them - any experience? Tim Edited August 3, 2014 by timmyo Quote
stingrayPete1977 Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 First things first is it a proper SGC nanyo Bass Collection or a later p or j bass replica job? If its the former they are the bargain of the century with the best build quality you will find equally matching basses in the £1-2000 range. Really light and comfy, good hardware, nice woods, good preamps. Quote
stingrayPete1977 Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Well bonfire night will be here in just a few months Quote
stingrayPete1977 Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Serious answer is they are like the other 1000 j copies from Encore to Alleva Coppolo, some are amazing for tuppence and some are amazing for £3500, others are awful for £90 and some arent a lot better for thousands more, all you can do is try them out ime. HowieBass Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 If it's the Jive Bass then I think it'll be as good as a decent Squier (think Vintage Modified or maybe Classic Vibe) - review here but the embedded video doesn't work http://www.iguitarmag.com/magazine-editions/guitar-interactive-issue-16/reviews/bass-collection-jive-bass/ Quote
timmyo Posted August 3, 2014 Author Posted August 3, 2014 Thanks guys - I'll give it a miss (a CV is still prob top of my affordable list) Quote
Roger2611 Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 I think the Bass Collection Jive basses had a good reputation, I have a feeling they were budget bass of the year in the Guitar and Bass magazine the other year, I have not played the newer Bass Collections but have owned a good number of the older Japanese ones they were all cracking basses Quote
Painy Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 My old SGC Nanyo fiver is my only 'one that got away' bass. Oh dear... Think I may have just given myself GAS! Quote
molan Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 I played a Bruce Thomas Precision today. Really nicely made, well finished, good fretwork, super-tight neck pocket, good balance, sounded great Quote
