I had never played a short scale before so I bought a crappy old Encore in bad shape but with a nice neck (one-piece walnut with a scarf joint). I made a new body for it and installed the p/ups and electronics from a retired Westone Spectrum GT.

I kept meaning to post a build thread but never got it together..

I've been eyeballing these with great interest. Would love to hear more

OK, so I used the SWB-1 bass at 3 gigs last week and must say I'm impressed. It's a nice player that punches above its weight and has good balance/position on the strap for such a compact body design. The neck is fast and (unusually for a short-scale) you've got a full complement of 24 frets. Scott sets each bass up himself and the strings he fits (GHS Super Steels 044/063/084/106 rounds) are a great choice. String tension is good and the E string sounds nice and bright. It's hard to fault this bass and IMHO it's such a steal at the price that I've also ordered a fretless version.

That looks really nice - like the subtle finish. I loved my 2008 SG Reissue and probably should have kept it. Trouble is there's so much nice stuff out there and you just can't keep 'em all!

Here is my SG Reissue bass born in Oct 2005 and has a lovely rich cherry finish

[attachment=217837:P1011596.jpg]

and here is my short scale Epiphone ET280 from the mid 70's ( the same as my first proper bass) which I bought a couple of years ago from a fellow bass chatter who imported from the US in pieces. The pickups were shot, so I got them rewound by Armstrong Pickups, and the truss rod was maxed out so I got my local luthier to do the 'add a washer' fix. It is actually 'redder' than this photo suggests just a bright day making it look orange and is in great condition for its age. It came with the bridge cover that is often missing for this guitar but it has lost its thumb rest.

A pair of American Landing's, T-bass, telecaster style with active pups plus eq. L30 Synth bass, passive Bartolini pups, brass nut, Roland pick-up, there's more wires inside than the space shuttle. They both use medium scale strings which IMHO tension up better than s/scale stringy 's.

Just got my Mensinger Cazpar from Adrian Maruszczyk and it's the sweetest short-scale I've ever laid my grubby paws on - by a long way!

Although I've never played a Spector Shorty, I would say this is in the same league but at 1/3rd the cost. I love it!
