JJW
I love the colour of this, what are your thoughts? Happy Jack
I think that's the least-credible wear pattern I've ever seen on a 50-year-old bass.
EssentialTension
Doesn't look real.
inthedoghouse
Maybe it might be that old but it's a very poor relic job done on it :-|
gary mac
I would be wary, although I suppose that you need to consider that the wear is not from fifty years of playing, as it has been refinished a few times. It's difficult to be sure by just viewing photos. If I was keen, I would be making contact, asking questions and if at that point felt it might be the real thing, then I would see if the seller was willing to let me inspect and play it. smaz
That's a basschatter... I bought a bass from him & he was telling me about his pre-CBS precision & it's neck that's to die for. He's a top bloke & deal with confidence
Happy Jack
Fair enough, but Basschatter or not that is a completely rubbish piece of relic'ing ... looks like 10 seconds with a belt sander for the upper bout, and another 10 seconds with a Dremel multi for the thumbnail wear. If you want to know what that bass should look like:
smaz
Judging by this photo (not on ebay), the wear near the neck is from picks & the upper bout is natural from his playing style, judging by the wear on the jazz:
