karlfer
Mark has been an absolute star and this arrived at least a month before I was expecting it. The silly sod even put a note on the receipt asking for first refusal buying it back or trading. OI, MARK, NO! Like many others I loved the look of his Burgundy Mist reliced Limelight 00130 '64 J Bass Burgundy Mist Matching Headstock relic , so I asked for the same bass, with 40-100 rounds, in Sea Foam Green. Please don't ask for sound clips, I don't have the gear or the brain cells to figure it out. Suffice it to say, the pups are excellent, it has happily done from JPJ to Gary Thain to Jaco in the last hour or so. Whilst the neck pup is pretty much capable of doing it all on it's own, dialling the bridge in to about 3 gives it a bit more bite. Neck full on, bridge on about 7, tone on about 3 is just amazing. Whilst I was scared about ordering something beat up, sorry, lightly reliced, I should not have worried. The finish is just so comfortable, neck and board superb. Looks great to me. The biggest compliment I can pay Mark's work is this. About 4 years ago I sold my original 74/75 jazz to Gunsfreddy of this parish. I had gigged it for over 20 years but it was getting too valuable to take to the Dog and Duck (twinned with Helmand). That bass played itself, it knew what I wanted to do. So does this one. THANK YOU SO MUCH MARK! Obviously I am happy to answer any questions, but please bear in mind I'm very old, a bit slow and from Darlington originally . Oh, and one last thing, I have been buggering about with the headstock this afternoon Edited August 8, 2014 by karlfer

Sean
So, what are they made from? What bodies and necks are they and who does all the fretwork? Are they built from cheaper basses or what? I really fancy one as I don't have a J type and would like to know a bit more.
JamesBass
Beautiful! Mark never ceases to amaze me with the quality he produces! I'm fairly certain that come my 21st I'll be purchasing one of his P's! Thinking it's between Lake Placid Blue with Tort or Shoreline Gold with Tort?
Perhaps it's best you mail Mark at Limelight. As to what it is that you are really buying? In my case one of the very best jazzes I have owned in about 40 years of playing . There has been a few jazzes in that time . Edited August 9, 2014 by karlfer
skej21
First of all, what a STUNNING bass :-) congrats. Secondly, I agree that I've picked up a LOT of basses in my time but there's nothing I've played that is as nice as my limelight and it's such a reasonable price! I'm sure you'll end up loving it more as you gig it and play it (I have!). It's nice to see what came directly after mine too (I'm 00133) :-)

karlfer
Thanks folks, the more I play it the more impressed I am. It really is a bit amazing. What's under the hood? Dunno. The best breakfast known to mankind is Lorne sausage in a well fired bap. I NEVER want to know whats in Lorne sausage
Oh dear. Karl, you're one of my best friends here and I have massive respect for you. I'm not sure that I should comment because I obviously have no taste at all.
Well Tom I would indeed have preferred it not to have been reliced, however, after weighing up options from Peterbilt, Fender CS and a couple of other luthiers, Mark and his reputation were the ones chosen as a better all round package.Glad I did. I recently tried a 1960 RI Fender Custom Shop and to be honest it was poor. Loose rotaries, grub screw missing, action you could drive an MX5 under, poorly set up neck, scratchy pots, all for £2400 . This was just over a third of that price, to my spec. When I finally got it out of the box (after re housing the small person hidden in the bomb proof packaging) the bloody thing was actually still bang on in tune! Life's rich tapestry, agree to disagree. Perhaps your taste has just gone on a little holiday All the best fella. Did I mention it plays wonderfully Edited August 9, 2014 by karlfer
discreet
I'm glad it worked out well for you, old man. My Limelight Jazz causes a fuss wherever it goes, not just for it's appearance (which is striking) but because of how it sounds. And I can tell you (actually, I think I have!) that it plays very, very nicely indeed. However... my views on the use of tort guards with anything other than sunburst or white are well known... but I don't want to be a party-pooper... so welcome to the Limelight Club! Apart from the p*ckg**rd issue (my issue) it looks like another winner from Mark. He seems to be at the height of his powers. Nice one.
