ON HOLD

***PRICE DROP - £800 plus P&P***
Hi all,

I have decided to sell my much-loved Birdsong Cortobass. The only reason for selling it is because it has been superseded by my Alembic and Mrs. RaNoFuNkY is not impressed with my bass "clutter" (sigh).

Some details for you:

Walnut body with ebony stringer
Maple neck with rosewood fretboard
Ebony nut, control plate and truss rod cover
Lace pickups
Gold hardware
Gold hipshot bridge and tuning machines
31" scale / 24 frets
Approx 1.5" neck width at nut, 1 and 7/8" at 12th fret

These are pretty rare over here. The 31" is a dream to play, and the neck has more of a Precision feel than Jazz, which fits very comfortably. The bass is nicely put together and handbuilt from what seems to be a very professional outfit based in Texas; it is certainly not a toy/gimmick. I believe that Birdsong now have the rights to manufacture the S.D. Curlee?

The 6-way Varitone selector ensures a wide range of tonal possibilities. Please follow this link for a very thorough review and to hear the many different sounds available:

I have briefly thrown together a youtube demo:

I can include a soft case. You're most welcome to pop in and try it out should you be in the Exeter area.

Would a Martin acoustic bass be of any interest? Looks like a long acoustic guitar, so is obviously different to "all those other basses"....honest...

You mentioned that the pickups are Lace.....do you know what models they are? Is the bridge the Man O War? Can't see the neck on the Lace page?

Are you interested in trades at all or just a straight sale?

I had a Birdsong a few years back and it was a superb little bass, just so easy to play and a great range of tones. From memory, I think the bridge pickup was an EMG? These are real pro basses. Good luck with the sale. If I hadn't retired from playing I would have been very interested!

Sorry for the late reply - I've been away. The neck pickup is a Lace Sensor Gold. Now that I've checked, the bridge pickup (which I thought was EMG too) is also marked "Lace".

For a extremely thorough review of the bass, with sound samples of every available pickup and varitone option, I recommend visiting this page:

Not working - at least, not for me. :)

BUMP and EDIT: That link demonstrating all the tonal configurations doesn't appear to be working (thanks Discreet). I am able to video requests if that helps (please not Bohemian Rhapsody).

Some interesting offers. Would prefer a straight sale, however will happily consider part exchange for delay/reverb pedals or anything a bit exotic.

Unfortunately a deal just fell through so this is now available at a lower price of £900.

It's a fantastic bass, very hard to come by over here. Only selling to keep the Mrs happy, but will consider part exchanges.

Is the Birdsong still available?
I recently discovered the delights of short scale basses but have struggled to find a good quality one.
I'm in Bristol so not too far to come.

Birdsong was on hold for me but my car needs money more than my bass playing.
Gutted to miss out on it but it will take months to raise the money again.
Somebody snap up this awesome bass quickly.
