lowdown
"Phil Jones - No point playing that guitar solo pal, nobody's listening to you!" Lol............. Agree with what Doddy said. To be honest that video has nothing on the lounge Drummer. http://youtu.be/a9kPfelTEds
Indeed, though it is no laughing matter. Mr Blackman was an exponent of musical agit-prop at a time when it was neither popular nor profitable. Consider: The choice of song - Mule Train - is designed to evoke the sense of endless, enforced labour, each slave harnessed to his fellow. The Mule is quite clearly representative of Oppressed Man. The tin tray is a symbol for Revolution while Mr Blackman's head and torso are emblematic of the existing body politic. Each blow he strikes upon himself is analogous of the blows that Revolution must make upon the fortress of Reaction. In beating himself thusly he makes a personal sacrifice on all our behalves; it must have bloody hurt, doing that twice nightly and three times on matinee days. Count Bassy
That's why they call it show business! (Unfortunately the rest of the band is awful.) And I think that people keep posting this, not because they think that they are the first, but because it perpetuated the joke. The challenge is to sneak it in under the radar so that people don't realise what it is until it is too late.

paul_5
Alas, 'twas always thus and ever shall be. People want 'entertainment' - be it kittens in drag or outrageous drummers. Salivating dogs, the lot of 'em (shuffles back to cave to resume intellectually superior hermitage to disapprove or popular culture from afar….) Nibody
I actually follow the guy on Facebook. And unlike the mind blowing arrogance and snorting down noses seen from some in this thread he seems like a genuine, humble guy. But then I thought music was about entertainment not elitism. Guess I've been wrong all these years.

This guy a few years ago was an internet sensation as he was taped doing this kinda stuff whilst playing some M.O.R rock songs in a cabaret band. The crowd thoroughly enjoyed the show and so did the tens of millions of people that watched the video. He then got famous from it. And clearly this is just a spot on a TV show where he's getting paid to do what people want to see him do.
I'm not really arsed one way or the other. Popular culture is designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator because that's what shifts units. You can choose to consume it or not. That said, I enjoy all of the above artists, and many more 'variety' acts of their ilk.
