enigmatic
I've just bought a 6 string fretless and now discovered that the strings i use on my 5 don't exist as a 6 set. so.... my question is what would you recommend? bass_ferret
Can you buy the extra string as a single. Some strings only come as sets of 4 and you have to buy the extra strings individually.
OutToPlayJazz
I use the Rotosound 6-string set (30-125) on my TRB-6. They seem to give the right feel for the bass. I know you can get a C string down to a .20 guage, but the 30 seems fine to me.
Doctor J
I just sold my 6, but I used to use Dean Markley SR2000 strings on it. Tried D'Addario, Rotosound, Elixir and more, none of them were any use compared to the SR2000.
7string
Usually a set of Elites, but I do have some D'Addarios to try which I got when I was in the States. At $27.95 a set I had to buy them...
6stringbassist
What strings do you use on your 5 string ?. I use DR Lo-Rider nickels, a nice mellow, but still bright sound, and just the right amount of tension. Why not just use a 5 string set like you already use, and add a C string seperately, that's what I tend to do, I find it hard to get a 6 string set of the Lo-rider nickels, my C is by Elixir. It also makes it cheaper when it comes to new string time each month, I don't change the C when I change the others.
enigmatic
All very good ideas, however ...... I use La Bella Slappers on my 5 and as it turns out, they do make a 6 string set it's just my normal web shop doesn't sell them. (I thought they stocked the whole range!) So i had to get them at Bass Gallery at 1.5 the price! But i'm all happy again, so what price d'you put on happiness?

Delberthot
I had TI flats on my Ibanez SR1006. What a sound! Not to mention that the skinny neck and slippery strings made playing a breeze.
funkypenguin
I would recommend either D'Addario nickel would, Prosteels or Warwick Black label if you're going for roundwound. Flatwound i'd try the D'Addario chromes hope this helps!
XB26354
DR Hi-beams 30-130. Most decent quality 6-strings I have played/owned sounded so much better. D'addario EXL1656 also very good (and a monstrous .135 B!). I had a cheapo Yamaha that only worked with a tapered B (which I don't like so I got rid of it!) so I found Warwick Black Label to be the best. The F-basses I have tried only sounded good with LaBella SuperSteps. In short it is worth trying a few brands and see which one makes the bass sing...
