I like my fretted basses but it's my fretless ones that really make me smile. There is currently a Rob Allen MB-2 in the for sale section that really has got my GAS going, especially as it has this really nice piece in the post as an example of the the tone,

And as always Pino just blows me away,

Listening to wonderful fretless players with their superb technique, tone, etc makes me want to sell my fretted basses and just slip and slide my playing life away :)

Still my favourite basses but as I don't play them as often as I should (can't really gig with them in a punk / indie covers band can I) I am not as accurate as I once was

Love my fretless basses, they get way more use than their fretted cousins. Added bonus, last night I'm almost certain I played some notes in tune

Yup, I agree and have the fretless love. I'm selling my fretted bass as my fretless didn't sell, I'm now glad as once you get your head around having a plain board it's very a expressive instrument to play on :D

I used to only play fretless, for years in the '90s. I had a fretless Stingray a couple of years back but never got on with it. I've got a Jazz body in the loft that's waiting for a fretless neck to turn up but it's been waiting for about a year now...

Bit of a fearless addict too. Started on double bass and have had a P fearless since '83 as my mainstay bass. Recently bought a Wal No 1 fretless as my dream bass. Even tried some different restless gear with an Ashbory and NS Omni Bass . Love 'em all.

If you do, you may have to change the nut. I had an HB fretless, and the nut was for a fretted bass and way too high. Probably a cost-cutting thing... 107 you say? :gas:

I picked up a cheap Yamaha RBX 270F for around £90 as my entry point and then once bitten by the bug, went to an MIM Jazz, then a Vintage V1004SPFL before ending up with the current more exotic offerings. I had the Yammy for quite a few years and I remember it being nice and light and pretty decent quality too. You see them around every so often.

Been solely a fretless player since about 1986 (some fretted work but minimal). Now I don't own a fretted bass.

Ironically, however, I have recently been thinking 'shall I'? I even wanted to try playing with a pick again, having not done so for decades. I find myself mildly irritated by my own slight out of tuneness which probably comes of not enough practice aggravated by the lowest current gig rate for months (2 eac in July and August) !! I think I am just having a Steve Swallow love-in and nothing will come of it.

For pics there's already a fretless porn thread here.

Oddly these pages seem to be blocked at work, will need to check out at home. Looks like there might be many happy hours of drooling to come.
Might have a look out for the Vintage as well then, I've always liked Vintage because they're so light.
I think it said 107 anyway. Thanks for the tip off though, I'm sure I can get it sorted out unless I find a Vintage as recommended above! :)

Might have something to do with the word "Porn" in the title. :)
