Number6
Hi All, I am really drawn to this bass but am a little put off by Epi quality control which is sometimes lacking. Has anyone owned or tried one of these and how would you rate it? I am aware that the sounds from the instrument aren't going to be super versatile so really my main worries are if they are well built for a budget bass. Cheers.....Paul
ikay
I've had one. It played well enough but I'd rate build quality as pretty average for a budget bass - body cavity had some sawdust and loose bits that needed shaking out, pickup height adjustment was a bit wonky. All fine after a bit of dismantling and tweaking. Main reason I sold it was the sound was a bit woolly and lacking in mids for me with the pickups in those positions. Fun litte bass though if that's the sound you're after.
skej21
The quality is much better than standard Epiphone quality control as the bass is produced by the Epiphone custom shop. We've had a load of these basses through my local shop and I'm always tempted. Awesome bass for the money!

There are some MIA Epiphones, and they may still have MIJ Elitist models. But, as far as I'm aware, the 'custom shop' label is applied to instruments made in their regular factories, just limited model runs. I think the Allen Woody basses were originally made in Korea, but that more recently made ones are made in China. Edit: No more MIJ Epiphones it seems. Discontinued in 2008. The Elitist Casino appears to be made in the Unsung (Peerless) factory in Korea. Edited August 15, 2014 by Annoying Twit
Number6
I think my concerns aren't where its made as there are some really good instruments coming from all factories nowadays but it just seems as though Epi can have some inconsistencies when it come to Quality Control. I definitely think i'd have to try before i bought one.
