£950

Hi there,

For sale is my beautiful Boosey & Hawkes "Artia" 3/4 size Double Bass
I bought it just a short while ago, from Sarah Thomas on this very forum
I believe Sarah bought it a few years ago (for £1K) from a fellow basschat member
though I can't find the original thread at the moment

The bass DOESN'T come with stand or bow, but I have a rather nice "Theodore" padded gig-bag,
which cost me around £60 - and I will chuck in as well...

It dates, I believe from around 1980
and for an instrument of this age, it has a few knocks & dings - which is only to be expected
However, none of these bumps have any effect on the playability or sound
I have tried to picture the main ones, which are on the edges
TBH - these look worse repairs in the photos than they actually are
and there are no cracks or other concerns

The fingerboard is ebony (not another dyed wood)
and it looks and sounds beautiful

At the moment, it is strung with Innovation Silver Slap strings
which I really like. These are great for Pizz, but not so good for bowing
However, I do have other options re strings - I will probably put the
Innovation Honeys it came with, and I do have a set of steel strings that came with my Stagg
- in case anyone specifically wants to bow the bass

Not much else to say, other than I'm only selling because
I bought a lovely David Gage bass from Greg on this forum,
and I really can't keep 2 DB's
I'll be sad to see this bass go - but she deserves to be played

NB. These Eastern European DB's are not like the modern Chinese laminate Db's
They really are high quality construction
Though less lively than a solid carved bass - it's a loud, really warm sound

EDIT: Sorry - forgot to add, I don't really want to post this
So collection only - or I can meet somewhere within reasonable distance of Cardiff

ALSO: I'm possibly looking for a trade for an NS Design EUB - with suitable cash adjustment...

This was my first double bass, known back then as 'Bertha the Cool'. She's great for learning on and should see anyone through their first few years. She can withstand a few knocks as well and if I hadn't bought the Superlight, I'd be buying this back again.

Bump for a price drop - Now £925
Surely someone out there wants this beautiful double bass

It's £75 cheaper than it was a few years ago, and now it comes with a nice padded gigbag too! :o

EDIT: I could always arrange a meet somewhere, within reasonable distance....

This beautiful bass should surely have sold for this price :o
Honestly, It's lovely - I'm only selling cos I now have a David Gage bass
and can't really justify the space for keeping 2 beautiful DB's
No takers? :o

BUMP, and a price drop to £900
I really could do with the space
(and I've bought another bass guitar)
so I could do with selling this DB

I honestly can't believe it hasn't gone already - it's a beautiful instrument
Now it's 100 quid cheaper than it was a few years back, and with a free case :o

C'mon BC'ers - I don't want to sell this via fleabay ;)

Vouching for this bass ... I've been playing one for years, it's one of the best cheap ply basses I ever heard. This bass was the precursor of the famed Strunal 50/4 .. made by same factory in Luby, Czech Republic. Quality student basses.
I have two other enviable vintage ply basses ... but I can't let the B&H go...

Out of interest, what is the neck profile like? Is it thin and "V" shaped or a more rounded "D"? I'm looking for a bass to take to the continent. Cardiff is quite a hike from Wakefield to try a bass though.

Thanks for that info PaulKing - cheers :)

TPJ - the neck is a rounded "D" shape I'd say....
And a good quality East European laminate should be of sufficiently sturdy construction for you to tour with
But as you say, Wakefield - Cardiff is a bit of a trek
When I was looking for a bass, I found none came up around here
They were all your end of the country then! lol

Anyhow, mad price drop to £900
This is a crazy price - if I didn't need the space, I wouldn't go this low :o
