I am a fairly new bass player, and i have stumbled upon an unfinished bass guitar, and I need help to finish it. I am having trouble finding pickups for it. The shape of the pickup holes is unusual, and differs from almost every bass guitar I have seen.

THat looks like a nice body, made from a single piece of Ash. However, I have never seen pickups with that shape either. My guess is that you will need to re-rout the pickup holes to fit another size/shape of pickup. If you do that for pickups which have a bigger overall size than the current routs, that would look the neatest, although you would still be left with the pickup ring screw holes showing.
Your other option is to rout the holes for whatever pickups you want and then add a tasteful smallish scratchplate to cover any untidiness left in the routing/screw holes. That would be my choice. A nice STingray-type scratchplate (in dark tort) would look lovely on that body.

Like the others, I have no idea what pickups would have been originally in this, but check the sizes of single-coil pickups such as these Seymour Duncan ones . The dimensions are given on their website and there are other single coils that look a little slimmer.

The alternative is to go for 'standard' pickups, but that will need the pockets routing out. Either way, you should be able to get some pickup rings that will both cover the holes and also fit the pickups. Check the sizes first, though, before laying out any cash. You could also go the scratchplate route, as hamfist suggests although it seems a shame to hide that lovely wood pattern - it's not often you see a one piece like that!

This was one of my early veneering jobbies - the pickup rings hide a multitude of sins :)
