I'm really impressed that everyone likes their pickups, and no one seems to feel the need to change them. I'd still love to know what they are, if they really are that good

[/quote] Haha, I'm the exception as per usual . I didn't dislike the stock pick ups but I thought a recent trad Wizard that i picked up sounded closer to my friends Fender 73 P when we A/B'd them....so I've stuck with the Wizard....for now!

I had a bass with a Wizard trad for a while and I thought it sounded really close to my 77 P. To my ears the P pickups Mark uses sound a lot like the Fender Original Precision Bass Pickups which is what I've been using on my basses for a while now. I don't know what he does to age them though, or if it affects the sound.

What are the P bass body contours like?

As I stated in the other thread I'd love a white blonde relic someday,- like a lightly worn AV57.

But I'd like a real light body with nice contours, 1.625 neck, (possibly even smaller) heavy rolled fingerboard. I'm sure he could do it.

What is the rough cost of a custom order? Anyone have one in Cornwall I can try?

How do you roll a fingerboard ?

Loads of youtube tutorials but basically get a stiff kitchen knife (use the top side, not the actual blade) or a trem bar, steel ruler or the like and rub it on the edge of the board between the frets until it loses it's sharp edge. Repeat for each fret, top and bottom of board. Soften the edges off with some fine wire wool. No need to fiddle with fret filing if you just soften the wooden edge a little.

Rather you than me! As a banana-fingered oaf this would be a sure-fire recipe for disaster!! YMMV though, especially if you're handy with bits of tree...

It sounds and feels great! The only initial issue is that it's come with a higher action and quite a lot more relief than I'd usually like (about 0.8mm), so I need to get that neck off at some point and give the rod a tweak...Very happy with it though Mark's craftsmanship and attention to detail is astounding, i.e. slightly shrunken scratchplate, wear at the end of the neck and on pickups (as though the strings have actually been whacking and bouncing off them for 50 years!), and I have no idea how he's done such a convincing job of "yellowing" the scratchplate! ...

Whereabouts in Kernow are you? You know Mark aka Mr Limelight is in Teignmouth Devon, nice drive! I live in a small village just outside Plymouth but gig all over Devon (home of the original pastie ) and Kernow (land of strange folk law and next to claim independence ) ...these gigs are mostly with my soul/function's band where i use my Limelight...if close by could always hook up

Was thinking, if it would be useful i'll take a pic of the P pick ups i removed to see if anyone can identify the manufacturer

Thank you! Can't say I was ever a massive fan of burgundy, but this has won me over! I think it's actually darker than the standard shade...I do love it though, it's beautiful :-)

I paid for the case, though Mark has a deal with Hiscox so it was a lot cheaper!
