Romeo2
It's Adrian's take on a p bass, and I am thinking of ordering one. Does anyone on here have one? Your honest opinions regarding the instrument please, thank you!
BassmanMatthias
I do not have one, but a Mr. Tee with PJ pickups. Its pretty good!
Romeo2
Thanks man, appreciate it. So there is no opinionated BCer with a Jake Classic? Guess I'll have to be the first one ... But I am also wondering how much love there is for these Maruszczyk basses. Handmade customs in Europe, dream up a spec and it will still cost you less than a mass produced big brand one - surprised that there is not that much attention devoted to them on here. So perhaps people could share their opinions on whatever Maruszczyk bass they have. I already know Adrian is a great guy to deal with, what about the basses? Tones, finishes, body/neck shapes, etc. - let's hear it. Thanks.
BassmanMatthias
Here is something to start with (in case you haven't seen it yet). tom5string
Mornin, not a Jake, but an Elwood. And this baby is the (current) end-point of a long search for a perfect 5-string fretless. It's the instrument I have been playing most for the last 3 years. Best compliment for an instrument, I think. So, in short: Elwood 5L-24 - fretless, 2 octave neck with an impressive ebony board - alder body with bright maple facings, maple neck - extremely light (3.7 kg) - unexpected, massive neck (not what you'd expect on a j-bass clone), but real good handling - punchy, mid-focused fretless tone, somewhere between Jaco and Pino A well built instrument, simple, without any "schnickschnack" like active electronics and the like. Serves perfectly to express my musical ideas. sounds like: http://soundcloud.com/tom-63-1/wir-waren-indie-ideales (sorry, german lyrics ;-)) http://soundcloud.com/tom-63-1/slapped-fretless Add on top of this - as you already stated - that Adrian is a nice guy, very responsive and helpful ... -> place an order :-) Cheers, Tom
Romeo2
Thanks guys. BassmanMathias - of course I have seen this before, what a beauty. In fact, one of the reasons I am considering getting one Tom - awesome stuff, thanks for the sound clips too! (Don't mind German lyrics at all, love the language!) tom5string
Thx :-) now, if you don't mind language training, here's a full review and some pics: http://www.musiker-board.de/reviews-bass/468658-bass-maruszczyk-elwood-l5-24-fretless.html
Romeo2
Tom, amazing - a proper player's review! I can get the gist (my German skills are a bit rusty these days) but will use a dictionary when I get stuck. But it seems only the Germans and Poles are buying Maruszczyks - the Germans trust their German brand, and only Poles can pronounce the name

Message the seller directly and see if he'll accept £1075 via The Gallery. He'll still get the £900 he was after privately after their 15% commission. You should move on this bass if you want it, as Jake 5p will not come up very often on the used market. I had to wait a couple of years before the one I now own came up for sale.
