2004gdavi Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Hi I have an NS omni bass 4 string, currently with standard tuning of G, D , A and E high to low. It's a 34 inch scale instrument and I understand it can be tuned in fifths in a similar way to a cello. I like the idea of this to get access to higher registers and to use a bow. However I'm uncertain on the strings to use or appropriate tuning. Any ideas? Quote
Owen Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 My guess would be that the strings on it would be fine to at least get a flavour. The E would go down a 3rd, the A would go down a tone, the D does not move and the G goes up a tone. All things considered, not a huge change in tension. Quote
Owen Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 From the bottom up C, G, D and A is standard 'cello tuning. Quote
Owen Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Is it fretted? I NEED to try a fretted one. Quote
2004gdavi Posted September 3, 2014 Author Posted September 3, 2014 Thanks for the reply. I can give this a go. It's not the fretted version as I prefer fretless. However the fretted version is such a departure from normal convention I'd like to have a go as well. Quote
