Pimp My Bronco..........

Hi all.

For a bit of experience and something to do, I'm going to pimp up an old Squier Bronco I managed to pickup on Ebay for under 50 quid.

I used to have a Mustang a few years back and regret selling it on now, but hay-ho.

I know there are/have been a few Bronco posts on here but not in recent history and I have a question that hopefully you good people will be able to assist with:

I'm looking at the Seymour Duncan SCPB-1 pup to slot in which I think will require relatively little body and woodwork. This selection however does pose me with an issue - the pole width of the pup will be slightly greater than the existing string setup. I'm looking to swapout the bridge anyway, so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas/opinions on the best/most suitable bridge to accompany the SD SCPB-1?

I'm a little bit of a novice as far as mods go, so please correct me if i'm on the wrong track.

Thanks in advance,
Stuart.

I used a Hot rail guitar pickup in mine, and made a new pickguard. I cut down a jazz bass control plate tomake a sort of "faux-Mustang" vibe

I know the pole pieces lining up are good in terms of aesthetics, but most pickups have a magnetic field that aren't affected by pole pieces being a bit out of line.

That Bronco sure looks amazing!
Good job with the mods!
Btw, how does the hot rails sound on bass?

I pimped my damaged Fender Musicmaster to create a Frankenstein-esque 'Mustangmaster' ©®™ - lookie here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/242658-show-off-your-short-scales/page__view__findpost__p__2519732

Adding a Precision pickup made a huge difference to the tone. I think the bridge on these is functional at best but I decided I can live with it.

Deep and toneful IMO

A bunch of other folk have dropped a guitar hotrails into a Bronco with good results

I'm hooked on short scale basses now, go to find me an EB0 now....!

I put a kent armstong hot rails humbucker into a 71 musicmaster and a kent armstong enclosed cool rails humbucker into a 72 musicmaster. The cool rails sounds a lot better to me darker & punchier where the hotrails has more mids and less bass. The enclosed cool rails I used looks just like a stock musicmaster pickup as well. I don't know how the KAs compare to the SDs though

Mine's not been pimped too hard so far. It was a bit of a recovery job, costing me a whole £20, coming from the back of another BC member's cupboard covered in assorted stickers and dirt. The first thing I did was get it cleaned up, and to give it that classy touch, fired some Poundland wood-effect vinyl wrap onto the scratchplate. The next, and possibly most major transformation was playing around with the tuning. I'd always had this daft idea about making a half-bass-half-baritone thing, and that's exactly what I've done here. It's tuned B-E-A-D using the middle 4 strings from a set of D'Addario Bass VI strings (EXL156: 34-44-56-72).

My next plan is to stick some kind of rail pickup in it, but for now I'm actually reasonably pleased with how it's treating me :-)
