ezbass
Well I'm a made up bass player and no mistake You may have seen a recent 'rash' of Rob Allens in the for sale section, well the first one to catch my eye was Legion's (it's all his fault!) and that got my GAS going BIG time. However, he very sensibly decided not to sell and there I was with raging GAS, the green light from Lady Ez, but with only new ones to choose from and there weren't many of them and the cost was, well, more than I or the Mrs were really happy to invest. Then along come two 5 stringers and one of them disappears almost immediately, right then, no time to hang about and debate the pros and cons. So, to cut to the chase, I took delivery of mrbassman_de's delight and here it is..... IMO an instrument that could define the player in their sound and style; we shall what occurs over the next few months.
And so you should be. Mrs Ez blames you too; you and that Peter Kastner video Seriously though, thanks for putting me on the path to so much bassy goodness.
Extreme want face !! Or even a deep 5
I played a Deep 5, it was kinda 'meh'. And if you'll believe that, you'll believe anything, it was even more DB sounding than the MB-2 (if that's possible without an actual dog house) surely the nicest looking single cut yet made into the bargain. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Probably (if you have the funds available). Edited September 6, 2014 by ezbass

ezbass
A little update. I used it tonight at a rehearsal with a band doing Pink Floyd covers, probably not the bass you'd normally associate with that kind off music, but I wanted to try it out and the band members wanted to see it. All I can say is, bloody hell! It was amazing, it fitted right in, I was most surprised and I'm being encouraged to use it by the others for this project. I'm also trying to learn the tune in the video above (Nardis, written by Miles Davis) and although my technique isn't as polished as Mr Kastner's the sound is spot on. This truly is a chameleon of a bass. The nylon wrapped strings are very kind on your fingers too. So a week on and I'm an even happier camper than I was last week
pmjos
I bought a 5 string with walnut top from another BC'er a few weeks ago. I lacked that little bit of mwah so shimmed the neck and thee it was. Huge deep chocolaty bass frequencies, thump at the low end and perfect understated mwah up the neck. I know there are other makers out there but this hits the spot for me. You know when an instrument is really good because you improve with it. It makes you play better This is a sound I have been looking for a long time, and the RA has been fantastic from the moment I picked I up. I know they are not cheap even 2n hand, but all I can say is that mine is the dogs. I am a happy with it in its own way as my 65 P. I think it is a modern classic. ezbass
I've just spent an hour or so playing some along to a variety of pop, prog, jazz, reggae and rock tunes. Is there any genre the MB-2 doesn't do well and just fit right in with? An amazing instrument. Rob Allen certainly is a gifted luthier.
