Guitarse Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 (edited) 6 string guitarist looking for a cheapo bass to mess with at home. Is the Squier VM Jaguar special any good? Seen one used locally for £160 Thanks Al Edited September 7, 2014 by Guitarse Quote
r16ktx Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Check out the Warwick rockbass series - cheap, 6str guitarist friendly, and good enough for band use. Quote
Paul S Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 You could do a lot worse than look on the classified here... say, for example....shameless plug alert... a mid 80s Aria Pro II Laser Classic for £125, which would see off your Squier Jag any day of the week and leave you change http://basschat.co.uk/topic/242042-aria-pro-ii-leb-laser-electric-classic-l125/ Quote
darren Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 I think one of these is tempting http://basschat.co.uk/topic/222780-nbd-jack-danny-1975-jazz/ Quote
Guitarse Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 Thanks folks. Reckon the J&D has to be the one. Quote
theyellowcar Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014
Thanks folks. Reckon the J&D has to be the one.
They're cracking basses. £120 brand new is unbelievable value for the quality you get. Quote
Grangur Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 How about this one? http://basschat.co.uk/topic/243892-the-best-l100-youll-ever-spend-on-a-bass-guaranteed-jd-jazz/page__view__findpost__p__2546536__hl__%A3100__fromsearch__1 Quote
PlungerModerno Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 +1 to Paul S and the suggestion to peruse the classifieds here. you might find a not so cheapo bass for a cheapo or near cheapo price. Might even be able to sell it on without a loss (try doing that with 99.9% of new instruments!). Quote
Lozz196 Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 The J&Ds look good, as do the Harley Bentons from Thomann. I`d also throw a Korean Squier into the pot as well, they`re very good basses, necks are fantastic - or at least the necks on both of the ones I`ve had were. Quote
Grangur Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 If you want a seriously cheap, but good bass; try looking out on ebay for a Gear4Music bass. I got mine for £20. The pups were a touch hot for my taste so I changed them, but that's a personal choice. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bass-Guitar-And-Amp-By-Gear4Music-/171445817595?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item27eaf790fb http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gear4music-Electric-Bass-Guitar-Sunburst-Finish-Good-Condition-/281428291793?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item41866ef0d1 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gear4Music-Bass-Guitar-Blue-White-/331313164691?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item4d23cdb193 Quote
Guitarse Posted September 11, 2014 Author Posted September 11, 2014 The J&D is excellent value. Got the black JB version from DV 247. Ordered Monday, arrived Wednesday with free delivery. A tweaked truss rod, lowered action and intonation set, white scratchplate for looks and I'm away. Resale value? Not bothered in the slightest. This'll do me for years. Cheers folks! Al Quote
darren Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 I think I'm going to get one of these too. I like the look of the green jazz but I fancy the white precision. Just need to convince myself that I need a third precision! Quote
alyctes Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 If I didn't have too many basses already I'd have had Paul_S's Aria three weeks ago... Nab it as soon as you can get to it. Quote
