FuNkShUi Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 I'm packing a bass for postage today, and the box I have means I'll have to remove the neck. Do I need to loosen the truss rod or is there anything I should/shouldn't do? It's a ebmm clone. So it's truss rod is pickup side of the neck. Don't know if this makes a difference? Quote
BigRedX Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 I wouldn't remove the neck unless you agreed it in advance with the person you are sending it to. Quote
FuNkShUi Posted September 12, 2014 Author Posted September 12, 2014 I have. I can't find a guitar box anywhere, and my local music shop said they don't have any that would fit a bass, only a guitar. Apparently the stock turnover of basses is slow, so they haven't had any in for a while Quote
BigRedX Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Go to your local bicycle shop and ask them for a bike box. Most have loads that they are only too happy to get rid of. Cut the top down to fit the bass. Most bike boxes are made of far heavier duty cardboard than the average guitar or bass box. I send all my instruments this way and have not had a problem yet. The majority of the time I get comments on how well the bass has been packaged. Quote
FuNkShUi Posted September 12, 2014 Author Posted September 12, 2014 Awesome. Thanks mate I'll go to halfords now. Quote
FuNkShUi Posted September 12, 2014 Author Posted September 12, 2014 Just like to say I'd highly recommend bike boxes for postage. Big red is spot on saying they are more sturdy and perfect for the job. Cheers again Quote
Andyjr1515 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Great tip, BigRedX! Never, ever thought of that. Andy Quote
