Owen
Hi all! I have a student who is struggling with his Ibanez bass. He has tried to re-wire it to a new jack socket but sadness has happened because he has got lost in wires. At the moment it looks like this The black wire which is not soldered to anything is coming off the battery. The black wire that is soldered to the jack is from the pre, as is the white. I'm sure you lot can do these in your sleep, but we are confused. At the moment there is a weak and puny signal coming out which cuts out completely when the floating wire is touched anywhere on the jack socket. Help! TIA. icastle
The white wire goes to the shortest of the three connectors. The black wire from the battery goes to the middle sized connector. The remaining black wire goes to the longest of the three connection points. EDIT: If it's been left wired up wrong then the battery could well be shot, so if the above doesn't work - try changing the battery as well. HowieBass
According to the above and if my eyes don't deceive me you need to swap the black wires over (desolder the one that's on the tag and move it to the other tag, then solder the currently free floating wire to the now freed up tag). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXoPEmh39ls

iiipopes
I concur. My jack buggered on my Ibby SRA305, and I had to replace it. It is wired exactly as described above.
