Clarky
I have gone back to Velvet Blues as my boomy old bass needs good definition, especially when amplified. Thus selling off my surplus strings (including an as-new set of Zyex lights, see separate listing) I bought a set of La Bella Goldentones for the D and G tynex-wrapped gut strings, which are basically the same as the famed Golden Spirals used by so many greats in the 50s/60s (eg, La Faro) and most recently by the late, great Charlie Haden. He paired these with Spiro Mittel E/A but I find the tension of Weichs easier to handle so I paired with a set of Spiro Weich E/A. Together they sound very 'Beyond the Missouri Sky'. All four for sale at a more than fair price of £110 posted (Weichs will cost Euro 95/£75 at Bassico, which sells separate strings; you can only get Goldentones as a full set with metal-wound E/A for about £140 at Caswells). All are in excellent condition Edited September 14, 2014 by Clarky
symcbass
Hi Clarky, would you split the set at all? I'd like the Golden Tones, but I'm not a fan of Spiros. Totally understand if you don't want to split them, thanks man, Sy.
