White Cloud
Desperately sad to read this news. John was a truly excellent bassist. Sublime taste and tone. What a loss
2004gdavi
Special place in Wal history as the JG range was named after him. I'm sure we'll see postings to mark John's passing on the related web sites shortly.

rushbo
As a die hard Rocker in my early years, the "Live at the Budokan" by the Ian Gillan Band was on heavy rotation on my crappy old stereo. The Bass playing is superlative and the Wal he's pictured with on the sleeve provoked much early GAS... safe journey John.

Cosmo Valdemar
Let's not forget his early work with pioneering power trio The Big Three. I don't think they left much of a recorded legacy but their reputation as a live act was nothing less than formidable.
dub_junkie
His playing on Roxy Music's 'Mother of Pearl' from the Stranded album is outstanding imo. Busy but never detracting from the song, always complimentary. He played some great stuff across a few Roxy Music albums.Inspirational player imo

discreet
Missed this entirely, just found out from looking at the Wal site. Very sad.
dmccombe7
Sorry to hear this. Was a big influence on my style and sound since hearing him with Gordon Giltrap late 70's / early 80's with that sharp WAL bass sound. Sad sad news. Sympathy to his family and all who knew him.
