Wonky2
Hi folks I have used my trusty whirlwind leads for almost twenty years now and I guess leads have probably come on quite a bit in that time..... Can anyone point me in the right direction for a decent jack lead ? I don't mean the typical fender/planet waves/ etc etc stuff you'll find at any music shop counter, I mean some decent quality gear (Apologies if there is a million existing threads on this subject)

HowieBass
Ovni Labs did a comparison of many audio cables http://www.ovnilab.com/articles/cablechoice.shtml His summary... Cutting to the chase, here are my personal top recommendations so far: • Lava "ELC Tweed" • Armor Gold • DiMarzio (standard, nylon braid) • Live Wire "Elite" • Elixir All of these deliver truly top-shelf performance, with no BS, at reasonable prices. Some of the super-expensive ones I've tested don't even work as well as these.
molan
FM cables are great, the silent jack versions work really well too!

Matt P
if i didn't make my own i'd be Buying Obbm, in fact all of my speaker cables are Obbm ones as i couldn't get the same grade of cable in small enough quantities. Matt

Stylon Pilson
Thought I'd pile on with the Obbm love, been my goto for the last 5 years. S.P.
JTUK
Decent cable and decent connectors, so that would be Klotz and Neutrik for me. There might be alternatives to Klotz but that is your standard, IMO. Obbm makes them, iirc as do a few others. I get mine made by a local studio engr. Expect to pay around £25 for a 6m cable
I don't think so... get stuck in there Rob! PS: Klotz for me. Generally speaking, Cables are cables are cables, but Klotz do make nice ones. NJE
I use these: http://www.designacable.com great service and for me the best part is they do different colours. I haven't had a black cable for over 10 years now and haven't lost any cables as no one ever has the excuse of "I thought it was mine". Highly recommend the neutrik silent jack on the guitar end too! That reminds me, I need to order a new one soon as a spare. Edited September 22, 2014 by NJE
mcnach
Award-Session Cleartone cables. Been using them since 2001, and I still use the very first ones I bought regularly. Great quality, wide choice of lengths, connectors, colour coding rings etc, and good price too. Zenitram
Expect to pay around £25 for a 6m cable
John at Orchid Electronics will do 6m for £12, I think it is, using Neutrik connectors and Van Damme cabling, in any colour you want, right-angle connectors, etc.
rmorris
Leads in 2014 are pretty much the same as in 1994 !!! If your Whirlwinds are not showing signs of wear and tear then there's no real reason to change. If you need new leads then I'd go along the lines of Klotz Instrument Cable with Neutrik or Switchcraft jacks. I think Studiospares have cables like this. Bassman Steve
+1 for Stewart at Award-Session. They are Klotz wire with Neutrik connectors and very well put together by him. Good postal delivery service too. His cable has outlasted a Pete Cornish lead by years.
