lowdown Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 (edited) Another great musician gone. Terrific musician/keys/composer. Played on so much great stuff. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-29197456 RIP http://youtu.be/j8PnDRAxI4A Edited September 14, 2014 by lowdown Quote
yorks5stringer Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 Saw the Crusaders, must be 30 plus years ago at Newcastle City Hall. A great gig and Joe Sample was an excellent arranger and musician. Quote
JTUK Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 So sad, my fave key player after Richard Tee. Glad I saw him live, and was just watching the Crusaders on youtube the day before he died. Quote
chris_b Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 (edited) This is terrible news. Bought my first Crusaders LP in 1973 and I've just been working up Street Life. 40 years of fantastic music. Saw them several times in the 70's, once with Pops Popwell. Coilte Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Sad news indeed. Joe was a great musician. As well as his Crusaders material, I also love his music on albums under his own name. R.I.P. Joe. Quote
jazzyvee Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 I saw Joe with the Crusaders a couple of times in the early 80's and a few years back when he was on tour with Randy Crawford, Steve Gadd and his son on double bass. Really sad news that we are losing so many great musicians in recent years. Quote
