Maude
Evenin' all. One of the bands I'm in is a covers band, we play a very varied mix of stuff but all rock based spanning six decades. As you'd expect some stuff goes down well in one venue and some other stuff goes down well in another, we try to tailor the set to the venues but what we've noticed is that the glam type stuff goes down a storm everywhere, amongst all age groups. We usually start the second set by letting the 'Blockbuster police siren' go off for a minute or two in the dark before launching into it as the stage lights come on, it certainly grabs peoples attention. We'll then do a T-Rex number and some Bowie, even Steve Harleys 'Make Me Smile'. It's not strictly glam but that sort of era and feel. Everyone is instantly up dancing and that's what we all want. We're considering changing the band into a glam covers band to keep the party mood going all night but as I was born in '73 I can't claim to have lived through the era and only really know the 'classics', so to speak. What I would love you folks to do is just throw your suggestions at me as to what would make an awesome two hour glam set. It doesn't have to be strictly glam and it doesn't have to be from the early seventies but it does need to have that feel if you know what I mean. So from well known to obscure what have you got . Ps I think we all secretly want to dress up. Thanks.
Maude
I've just read through that and I don't mean make up a two hour setlist, just tell me your favourite few glam songs to show me what I'm missing . I thank you!
MacDaddy
Slade The Sweet Mark Bolan Mud David Bowie For starters. Possibly avoid Gary Glitter unless you're feeling brave!
Big_Stu
Get a pair of pliers on your singers nuts & you could do Rubettes "Sugar Baby Love".
gary mac
Not strictly glam but from that era; Mott the Hoople, All the Young Dudes, Roll Away the Stone, All the way from Memphis. The Faces, Stay with Me.
Roland Rock
I've depped in a glam band a couple of times, and it was always great fun. As well as all the usual stuff we did Devilgate Drive, Virginia Plain and Teenage kicks Edited September 15, 2014 by Roland Rock

Any man whose name became top rhyming slang in his own lifetime is OK with me! As Gary (Mac) said above, I'd most definitely include a few Mott The Hoople songs, too. Classic. steve-bbb
too much to choose from by T.Rex if you want raunchy and heavy then it has to be 20century boy if you want chilled and groovy then try Cadillac (B side telegram sam) or mellow stonehead shoegazey >>> lifes a gas http://youtu.be/y24B8_YxtQY http://youtu.be/OjiNROf_U4Y

Maude
I can't see the vids on my phone but I'm guessing the 'best b side' will be Ballroom Blitz. I will enjoy them when I get home. Loads of good suggestions, I like the not strictly glam ones like Virginia Plain, I'm even thinking we could get away with stuff like 'Take Me I'm Yours' by Squeeze. Gary Glitters in definitely, if I want to open a chip shop called 'Jimmys Savaloy, and other kids favourites' then I'm not shying away from GG :-) Keep them coming

Qlank
Have you heard Trapeze covering Sunny Side Of The Street? Not really glam but 70's. And a great tune.
skankdelvar
Might be worth including some of the one-hit wonders and some of the acts who had one foot in glam and one foot in mainstream rock and pop. For example: Cross-over Queen - Seven Seas of Rhye, Now I'm here Elton John - Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting Chicory Tip - Son Of My Father Alice Cooper - Elected, School's Out Sparks - This Town Abba - Waterloo The Move - California Man David Essex - Rock On, Hold Me Close 10CC - Rubber Bullets, Wall St Shuffle BeBop Deluxe - Maid In Heaven, Ships In The Night One-hitters: Kenny - The Bump, Fancy Pants Cozy Powell - Dance With The Devil Ringo Starr - Back Off Boogaloo Pilot - January, Magic Brownsville Station - Smoking in The Boys' Room Chicory Tip - Son Of My Father Sailor - Glass Of Champagne, Girls Girls Girls Hello - New York Groove Barry Blue Racey Links : Compilation: Best Glam Rock Album Ever 100 Singles: http://rateyourmusic...es_of_all_time/ 100 Albums http://rateyourmusic...ms_of_all_time/ Edited September 15, 2014 by skankdelvar

Big_Stu
You'll also need a strange shaped guitar, still available from John Birch Guitars (RIP John) for around £1400 your cash......... or drool over pics instead. These CDs would be essential listening in prep. Edited September 15, 2014 by Big_Stu
