Recording. Simple stuff onto pads etc..

RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE

Some of you know that I find recording stuff a bit of a turnoff.
Anyway another dumb question;
I have a boss rc2 looper. I also have a couple of loop apps. However, I like the look of the maschine app( and similar).
What I was thinking of doing is recording bass loops onto something like a kaoss pad and put a few other things like drums etc.
can this be done on the fly?
Any advise greatly received;)

I have the Maschine app and as far as I'm aware there's not much scope for importing new loops into it - it's a nice little 'sketch pad' for trying out ideas, but that's about it.

Working with apps is by and large a fairly clumsy and complicated process as it's very difficult /nigh on impossible to share files between them in a convenient way. There are some great products out there for iOS and Android, but they're mostly standalone products - one trick ponies, so to speak.

Your best option by far is to get your head around something like GarageBand or Reaper, which will enable you to do what you're describing very quickly and easily... once you've got over the initial learning curve.

Set aside a couple of hours, search for some YouTube tutorials and you'll have it cracked.

Honestly! :)

Copying audio between Apps can be a bit flakey.
But I use 'Audiocopy',
http://retronyms.com/audiocopy/

and a must really, 'Audioshare',
http://kymatica.com/Software/AudioShare

Both are compatible with a couple of hundred apps, and growing.

To complete your Arsenal it's worth grabbing 'Audiobus', (app to app audio routing).
http://audiob.us

I found using the three above, I can pretty much get things done.
But to be honest, it's just a sketch pad for ideas for me
when on my travels, along with Notion for iPad (that app I do use a lot).

Thanks guys . I have done GarageBand in the past . I find the version on snow leopard buggy.
Was thinking of either doing logic, or the GarageBand on iPad .

I find the recording process long winded, for what I want.
I was thinking of buying one of those boss loopers which have a few loopers ion one (boss 500?)

This would mean I could do bAss on one, drums on another etc.
Was thinking of the boomerang sampler.

More opinions needed;)

To be honest doing things on the iPad will still be "long winded",
there is no easy way to start, but after a few YouTube watches
and even the dreaded "manual", it all becomes easy just to record
a few basics like Bass, Drum grooves etc.
Turn on Mac/PC/Tablet/iPad open relevant app/programme,
hit record and all done.

I tend to agree with Skol...Reaper, GarageBand ( or whatever DAW)
is the easiest way to go, even more so with the hundreds of online tutorial
videos available.

It's not clear (to me at least) if you're thinking about loop recording and playback in a live situation or creating sound samples at home for subsequent processing/playback. You mention the Kaoss Pad which suggests to me that you're thinking about live performance for playback and possibly for capture too. From what I've seen of them you need both hands free to record/beat match/process/playback the sounds when using a Kaoss - fine if you've got the role of sound manipulator in a band (like early Eno or Jonny Greenwood) but next to impossible if you're simultaneously playing bass and trying to create sound on sound layers. If you want to capture and playback multiple loops in a live band situation you'd be after something like the Boss RC-300 Loop Station or as you've mentioned the Boomerang Sampler.

And now a gratuitous link to a video of Adam Ben Ezra using a Boss RC-50...
