visog
Specifically for dirty'ing up/giving a valve-oomph to a very clean bass/amp combination.. Thoughts and recommendations please...
SmallDawg
On a tight budget it has to be the Behringer BDI21. Personal favourite at the moment, the Sansamp BDDI although I am VERY partial to the Darkglass B3K, just wish they'd do a rack mount version of it
Lozz196
I`ve had many, inc Behringer BDI21, Aguilar Tonehammer, DHA VT1, Sansamp BDDI, MXR M80 and Tech21 VT DI. My fave without a doubt is the Tech21 VT DI.If looking to keep the same tone as the amp itself, but just adding warmth/grit then the DHA is hard to beat. But the tone from the VT DI, coupled with the versatilty, it`s my winner.

Wooks79
Cheap = Behringer BDI Expensive = Verellen Meatsmoke
inthedoghouse
SansAmp BDDI here - love it
brensabre79
In a blind test most people are pushed to tell the difference between the behringher BD121 and the Sansamp BDDI. However i would personally recommend the DHA VT-1 for dirtying up. the behringer is great for a clean valvy preamp like tone though.
TheGreek
Just ordered one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Little-bear-6J1-HiFi-stereo-tube-valve-Preamp-Preamplifier-amplifier-incl-transf-/400774756507?pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_HomeAudioHiFi_Amplifiers&hash=item5d5009789b At this price it's worth the gamble. Dosi Y'Anarchy
I've owned and used quite a few preamp pedals and im still mightily impressed with my Tech 21 VT Bass.
dannybuoy
For dark warm barely overdrive, I have settled on the Bearfoot Blueberry, or for eq control and touch sensitive drive, the Xotic Bass BB Preamp. I also dig the Darkglass Vintage Deluxe but it's a different sound - kinda like running a bass amp and guitar amp in parallel. This is the first time I've had 3 od/preamp pedals in the house that I want to keep and could happily bin the rest. But they all do something different, there is no one pedal to rule them all. Some sound better with a pick vs fingers, Jazz vs Precision, etc.

ahpook
Is the jury still out on the MXR Bass Preamp ? My vote would be for the Tronographic Rusty Box, but I know that has a 'sound' so it's not for everyone. Mind you - that into an Orange bass stack at last practice...sounded awesome. Lozz196
Bargain - and they`re a bargain at the full price, so a tenner, well congrats, deal of the week, has to be.
Mudpup
I've just done 2 gigs with my new Thomann review voucher funded Berry BDI21. Its bloody awesome for the money. My Sandberg/Genz Shuttle9.2/ Barefaced BB2 x 2 gig rig sounds huge. Fat, warm, slamming and with a real lovely tingle up top with a set of new strings. Probably the best £18 bit of kit you'll ever get. Trouble is, its made me want a Sansamp VT Deluxe programmable thingy to play with now...........
