timmo
I was advised to try a short scale bass, as i have finger issues that don`t allow me to stretch my fingers as far as a i would like. Obviously it is hard enough finding a local shop with a standard left hand, without needing specific requirements. Would anyone know of a cheap , half decent one that isn`t one of those violin shaped ones please? They don`t seem to come up very often second hand
Subbeh
How cheap is cheap? Thomann have a couple of Harley Benton B stock shortys, £40-50 and a rather nice Warwick Rockbass Corvette for £408 which looks nice.
Spike Vincent
Indeed, there aren't many short scale left handed basses around, I've got a 1962 Burns Sonic, can't say I've seen many of those for sale recently though...
Spike Vincent
For the price of those Harley Benton ones, you can't really go wrong though.
timmo
Thanks for the replies. I saw the Harley Benton ones, but thought they may be very cheap for a reason. I was looking at £200 maximum, and thought this one might fit the bill http://www.musiciansfriend.com/bass/ibanez-gsrm20l-mikro-left-handed-4-string-short-scale-bass-guitar If the Harley Benton would be ok, I may get that instead, and if i liked short scale, get something a lot better. Given me something to think about.
Spike Vincent
I've got a Harley Benton 6 string Traveller guitar ( tiny scale) and there's nothing wrong with the build quality. That Ibanez looks nice though.
Subbeh
Yeah, Harley Benton are supposed to be surprisingly good for the money but I think I'd go with that Ibanez for sure!
stoko
I was just about to start this very thread myself! Im after a short scale leftie - theres four bassists in our band and I want a short scale with ultra thin strings for a more toppy end. Do Fender do a left handed jaguar does anyone know? I cant seem to find one. I notice Timmo that your link doesn't post to the UK, any UK stockists that you lot know of?
That is the problem, i saw the price in sterling, and just assumed that they were available here. I haven`t found any available in the UK. As far as i am aware, there is no left handed Jaguars made. There seems a very limited choice of left handed short scales .

Envy.Problem with your plan is that short scales tend to have less treble.
ProfFrink
Check out Eastwood Guitars. http://www.eastwoodguitars.com/ They have a number of LH short-scale basses. I don't know anything about their quality but if you dig the vintage looks, they sure look nice. Edited August 19, 2015 by ProfFrink

Spike Vincent
What did you get in the end, Timmo? My recent health issues have led me to think I might be better off with a smaller bass.
anaxcrosswords
Funnily enough I've just put a Danelectro Longhorn on Ebay. It needs some attention (marks where the pots used to be, and there's a lot of fret rattle - just needs a proper setup).

sblueplanet
If the price is right I fancy getting one of these beauties. Actually I just realised that the short scale version of this bass only comes right-handed. Pity. http://www.ibanez.com/products/u_eb_detail.php?&year=2016&cat_id=2&series_id=58&data_id=165&color=CL01 Edited April 2, 2016 by sblueplanet
sblueplanet
Picked up this today. Small-bodied, short-scale Ibanez Mikro. Here it is next to a Fender Jazz. Have had a quick play on it and the bottom end is good. Don't know what strings it has come with. Maybe someone will know what Ibanez ship their basses out with.
