coffee_king
Hey guys Anyone know of any cheapish/quietish floor fans for use on stage? Cheers in advance.
allighatt0r
I've been using one of these for about 4 years, it's not the most quiet or cheap thing in the world, but it is exactly what you want. Best money I've ever spent on gig gear. I think it was more like £30 when I bought mine. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4250090.htm
coffee_king
I worry about the noise of fans though. Do you sing too? Does it get picked up by your mic?
Westie9
We use a floor fan but we have to be careful that's it's not directed at our singer as it dries her throat out...

flyfisher
For some serious wind, Machine Mart have a pretty extensive range of fans. This one will blow away the cobwebs: https://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/cl-cam6000-drum-fan Edited September 30, 2014 by flyfisher

coffee_king
Anyways, I picked up an 18" floor fan and its totally changed my world. I should have purchased one years ago. I (And those around me are) a lot less sweaty on stage now. Cheers for the advise.
goingdownslow
Can't stand fans, it's like standing in a cold draught, gives me a stiff neck.
tauzero
I use a clip-on fan, about 6" diameter, which will just about clip onto a speaker stand or sit on top of my cab. Not as powerful as a big floor fan but takes the edge off the heat.
fun size nick
What I want is a little fan in front of my mic to blow cigarette smoke away from me when the lovely people on the front table light up...
chris_b
We've just come back from a trip to China and we had a big problem with the Chinese smoking everywhere, even in the non smoking hotel rooms, where the management thoughtfully provided matches and ashtrays!! Back on topic; I hate fans on stage. The best gigs are the hottest and sweatiest.

Smoking is still viewed pretty much as an entitlement (almost exclusively a male entitlement) here, much as it was a few decades ago in the west - if you've got a problem with having it inflicted on you, you should lighten up, man. Things are slowly changing, at least in the big cities, and its thankfully socially unacceptable to smoke on a lift or in a subway station. Still pretty common to see grandpas with a toddler in one hand and a cig in the other though. It's still a crappy situation for hospitality staff (who are mostly women) who have to spend their working lives breathing men's smoke. Walker
I saw Squeeze on TV using a few fans on stage - tracked them down and it's called a Vornado 733. Managed to get one from Germany on eBay for about fifty quid. It even keeps the dancing punters cool!
