NancyJohnson
TPOH? Jeepers, I haven't thought about them in a long long time. Just downloaded 'I'm an Adult Now'. We used to cover this years ago! Thanks for nudging my memory! P
And the best two, for my money. Mine would probably be The Pursuit of Happiness - Johnny Sinclair (nothing special basswise, just really well written songs with intelligent lyrics) Morphine - the late Mark Sandman. Two strings and a slide, and one of the most amazing sounds ever. Andy
NancyJohnson
If I play by the rules and choose one only... Cheap Trick - Tom Petersson However, I really dislike virtually everything that they've done since Dream Police!
All Shook Up (which followed Dream Police) was OK...it's certainly better now than it was in 1980...TP left after this one and it also coincided with the band losing their way a little, but you should check out the Silver and Metro live albums and more importantly the current Rockford CD. It's a real return to [early] form. P
Rich
Well just to be difficult, my favourite 'band' is any line-up of Mike Stern's live quartet... so the bass player(s) is any one of Lincoln Goines, Jeff Andrews, Alain Caron, Anthony Jackson, Vic Wooten... for me, Caron is the pick of the bunch. Phaedrus
Some favourite bands, not necessarily because of their bass players: Pearl Jam - Jeff Ament Crowded House - Nick Seymour Jellyfish - bass by either Andy Sturmer or Roger Manning Rush - Geddy Lee Yes - Chris Squire Genesis - Mike Rutherford Led Zeppelin - John Paul Jones Rage Against The Machine - Tim Commerford It Bites - Dick Nolan Peter Frampton - Stanley Sheldon There are of course many, many more bands and artists I love. lowhand_mike
Wonder Stuff - Rob "Bass Thing" Jones & Paul Clifford
+1 on them 2 but prefered Paul. anyhoo my fav that i always seem to return too is Faith no More, bassist is Billy Gould very talented and they kinda started that alt rock stuff way back but thta wasn't all they played such a mix of styles it shouldn't work but so does. Johnny Wishbone
Erm.... RATM/Audioslave - Tim Commerford Soundgarden - Ben Shepherd/Hiro Yamamoto Black Sabbath - Geezer Butler Hundred Reasons - Andy Gilmour Stone Temple Pilots - Rob DeLeo Led Zeppelin - JPJ Metallica - Jason Newsted/Rob Trujillo/Cliff Burton (all brilliant bassists in their own way) Faith No More - Billy Gould RHCP - Flea Alice In Chains - Mike Starr/Mike Inez Queens of the Stone Age - Nick Oliveiri/Josh Homme Pearl Jam - Jeff Ament Not necessarily my favourite bassists, but a good number of them in there. Pikefloyd
My top band; Pink Floyd (Roger Waters, Guy Pratt - more recently) Guy Pratt is great on Bass, but recently saw Roger Waters live and his sound is the classic Floyd sound. I think David Gilmour also played bass on some of the tracks in studio
jacko
At one time I'd have gone straight for Yes and Chris Squire and admit to listening to precious little else. Nowadays I listen to too many different genres to have a favourite 'per se' but the band I listen to most when I want to relax is James taylor's. Bass player either leland sklar or jimmy johnson. Miles comes a close second, my favourite era being the Ron carter years.
Johngh
RUSH - No question, I've been a fan ever since 2112, and how they get the sound they do live with just 3 of them is amazing, yes I know there are a lot of samples triggered by foot control etc, but its still impressive. Geddy is amazing, and makes it look a piece of piss, which its not !

P
I have those recordings and unfortunately I can't decide if it's the commercialised (over)production that I dislike or the fact that the sound has evolved into keyboards and schmaltzie/generic rock guitar sounds. Either way I rarely (if ever) play anything post Dream Police (regardless of bassist), even All Shook Up... and the Rockford CD was relegated to the back of the rack after the first airing! Still my favourite band purely for those early recordings and everyone should listen to the debut album at least once, if only to show that 'I want you to want me' isn't the be all and end all of Cheap Trick. Tinman
All time favourite band? Genesis (who, strangely enough I shall be seeing tomorrow). Mike Rutherford IMO is an amazing player when he wants to be, he just needs to put down that damn guitar.
john_the_bass
fave band are weezer - matt sharp era (ie when matt sharp was playing the bass!!) can't say i've ever listened to his playing in much detail, i just like the band and the blue album is still probably the best in my opinion Edited July 6, 2007 by john_the_bass

Golchen
My fave band for many years has been the mighty Dream Theater, Bassist John Myung is always too low in the mix though!
