jonnythenotes Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 I have just noticed that the metal grill on my Ashdown neo cab is made up of hundreds of pressings of the Ashdown twin wing logo. Also, the thru body stringing on my Yamaha bass is based on the tailpipes of a American Corvette muscle car. Have you ever noticed anything on any of your gear that had no influence on you buying it, but is a good talking point when you do spot it..? There must be loads of stuff out there that doesn't really effect the sound or performance of your gear, but is a cool thing to have on it anyway. Another example of this is he headstock on the Trace Elliot T bass... Completely over engineered, probably has very little effect on the performance, but looks really good. So come on then, make me drool over, or start googling things I had no idea were there, but will impress the pants off me when I find out.. Quote
PlungerModerno Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 By the Trace Elliot T Bass I assume you mean this gem: and on the Yamaha you mean: Both are neat designs, Check out this piece - drool worthy in my book: http://www.notreble.com/buzz/2014/09/15/bass-of-the-week-black-beard-guitars-fahrenheit-451-ii/ This one is the inspiration for a build I'm currently designing... Might even make it! jonnythenotes Posted September 28, 2014 Author Posted September 28, 2014 Bang on Plunger....I have got an old 96 limited edition Trace Elliot T bass where the headstock is wood...Still looks good even amongst todays hi-tech boutique gear. Also, you just got to love the Yamaha stringing system...functional and tres cool. The links you put on are also slobber inducing...Good luck with the 'if and when' build...... Thanks for your comments... Quote

I guess after linking to the Guy Pratt custom Star Bass from Warwick I should include "The Rail": http://westone.info/railbass.html and the G1 from Gibson: Which are in a similar vein. Also the earliest one I can find with the sliding pickup feature, which Mr. Pratt refers to as inspiring the Star Bass project is the Dan Armstrong 'London' Bass: http://www.danarmstrong.org/londonbass.html Quote
jonnythenotes Posted September 28, 2014 Author Posted September 28, 2014 Now that rail bass is seriously whacky. Looks like an extra from Thunderbirds... Quote
