Happy Jack
At a loose end last night I flicked through the BBC iPlayer and stumbled across http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00shyg4/young-guns-go-for-it-series-1-2-the-human-league#group=p0276q4x made in 1999. Hugely enjoyable and very entertaining. I was particularly taken with the idea of recruiting a new member for a band with the immortal line: "We hear you have a slide collection." Well worth 30 minutes of anyone's time.
molan
A friend of mine was once recruited into a band whilst standing at a bar because the lead singer mentioned he really fancied a synth player. My friend mentioned he had a real cheapo Wasp synth. He couldn't really play it but simply having one was enough and he was immediately offered the gig. Only lasted a few gigs and one album but had one really big hit single. The lead singer died years ago and my friend helped re-form the band and thy are now a staple on the post punk / 80's revival circuit. Somewhat amusingly not only can he not really play keys but he can't really sing either - he's now their lead singer
bonzodog
Yes i watched it too. I think Dare and Hysteria are two very important albums that shaped 80s pop music. First time I have seen Philip Oakey interviewed and was surprised how un-rock star he came across compared to the image he had. Very enjoyable
KevB
I'm sure a lot of that programme came from the 'synth britannia' or something similar that went out a couple of years back, unless I had a major deja vue moment, seemed I'd seen/heard a lot of the 'tram' interview footage before. Worth a look though.
bonzodog
I watched the bananarama one after too. Brought back all my boyhood memories of my crush on Siobhan Fahey. My god she was stunning!!
