It's also really well produced, has some very musical themes, melodies etc and generally comes over as a very complete project rather than a bass w***fest.

Excellent :) Where did you get it from? (I thought it wasn't released in the US until 8th August!)

Rich.

I was enjoying the youtube clip until Marcus’ solo – to me it just shows he’s a one trick pony and we’ve all heard it before…boring.

I’d love to catch one of their European legs though, but I don’t think my girlfriend would be happy to trade off a beach holiday in the sun for a rushed weekend in Slovakia where my focus is gonna be completely on the music :)

Does anyone know why they’re not coming to the UK? I’m just thinking that it must have been a conscious decision, so there must be a specific reason they’re not coming.

Just watched the YouTube clip and I realise now that I'd actually seen it before..

For me, the 3 very different playing styles don't gel particularly well on that piece, so I will check out their respective solo work I think and go from there in order to try to get my head around what they do... But, watching it again did confirm for me what I've always thought about Stanley Clarke, which is that I think he really should have been a guitar player.

Of the 3 musicians, the one I most closely identified with as a bass player was Marcus Miller because in the main, he was playing what I recognise as bass lines/grooves etc.. However, I realise that's maybe more a reflection on my own limitations as a musician!

Hey Rich - I'm afraid to say it's my job - I review CDs for Jazzwise magazine - so I got an advance - it is genuinely good, I think it'll actually surprise a few people who expect it to be purely self indulgent. Another thing I would add is that both Stanley and Marcus are great producers, SC has 30 movie soundtracks to his name - and Marcus is a studio legend - Vic ain't too shabby either... - anyway I'm not a huge fan of all bass albums (IMO the Manring/DiPiazza/Carbonne CD was very dissapointing) but this one is actually OK.

Cheers

Mike
