Dood
Hey all! I was just looking for a song on da'interweb and happened upon one of those '50 best bass line' magazine articles. You know the sort, the kind bereft of anything other than 'songs that the guitarist in your band knows'. Well, I gots me to thinking that if it hasn't been done already (I apologise if it has) but why not create a single playlist with tracks for us bass players to delve in to? I recall that we had a general 'what are you listening to' type Spotify play list previous, but how about a definitive 'you need to listen to this bass line' list. We needn't stop at 50 either. What songs do you think everyone should at least know to listen to, or even be able to play? If it sounds like a good idea, here's a collaborative playlist I've created to test the water: Link fixed: http://open.spotify.com/user/onlinedood/playlist/6UkfcLnRafb95u7EnciaAU I've added just one song, the first bass line I ever learned to play Oh and I know that some people hate Spotify, but I thought it was the easiest way to make a physical playlist that everyone can access for free. What do you think? Rubbish idea? Please let me know if the link doesn't work! Judo Chop
Cool idea, are we allowed to add to it since it's an open playlist?

Catch you later!

It once appeared in its entirety in Bass Player magazine, transcribed by Bryan Beller, who dubbed it "the hardest song he's ever had to transcribe". KevB
Not got time to do it but can someone at least put some Who, Beatles, Yes, Cream and Rush on there. A bassline related list looks lost without them.

[/quote] This would have been played on TONTO (The Original New Timbral Orchestra), an amalgamation of Moog, Arp, Oberheim, Serge and custom-built synths. Stevie would play the actual keys and his recording pals Malcolm Cecil and Bob Margouleff would work the gubbins (switching portamentos in and out, tweaking filters etc) in real time during performance. See more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonto's_Expanding_Head_Band and http://www.geeksandbeats.com/tag/stevie-wonder/ They don't make em like that anymore

socrates
Just had to add a White Denim track and up the James Jamerson quota with Franki Valli's The Night.. Bernadette already on there so this is perhaps my next favourite Jamerson performance (and I think one of his last ever?)
