Yamaha BB300

Anybody know much about these?

I found a battered BB300 in a random shop that has nothing to do with musical instruments. Apparently it's an 80's made in Japan P-bass, although I didn't ask to take a look at any serial numbers. I became curious about it when I got home so thought I'd ask here.

I'm not sure what would be a fair price for one of these. I'm guessing not much at all.

Generally well made basses...

good basses - I had one - made in japan and will be better than a lot of basses.
when you're looking at yamaha, esp the japanese ones they do tend to be cheap..... if you double or triple the price you get about where they are compared to other makes secondhand....

I had a BB300 for a few years as my backup bass - very well made, no frills P-Bass. If it's in decent nick (functionally working well) I'd pay a ton for it.

Great bass, punches harder than its price suggests. I had a BB300 for a while, it performed well at gigs, I played it at Belladrum festival. The only reason I got rid of mine was because I restored a BB450 and it was unnecessary to keep two passive BB basses. If it's battered like you suggest then I'd think no more than £100 probably.

It`s not battered. It`s a road worn, relic, vintage bass

If it had Fender on the headstock it would be worth about a grand but as it says Yamaha on it, not a great deal. But these Japanese basses from the 80`s are the dogs dangallies.

So, I purchased it..

..needs a bit of work and a darn good clean, not to mention new strings, so I'm not fully sure how it will sound once everything is in place.

Would it be something of a sin to stick flats on this thing?

Cool. If it was me I'd change the knobs for something darker, but to each etc. These are fine basses, you won't be sorry you bought it

Are such things universal or do you have to find specific knobs per manufacturer?
