xilddx
Pretty f***ing stunned by this. Kid seems to have immense compositional ability, and harmony and cadence are in his bloods it seems. Not to mention monstrous chops. I'm sick of this kind of music but once in a while, something rams itself up may arse and won't let go. And is that Dave Marks on bass?
I think you'll find it's actually Peregrine Took. Or possibly Meriadoc Brandybuck.
Yngwie clone playing classical-prog cross-over. Destined for a life of trade fairs... Watch him blossom into a endorsement virtuoso...
Sad to relate, the fact that this was some years ago means that we can see exactly what happened next. He's (basically) a guitar teacher in Italy, and yes, he does endorsement slots at trade shows. Undeniably an astonishing player, but that's no guarantee of rockstar success. (not enough coffee)
Harsh maybe, but you have to say what you feel. In my opinion, someone with compositional skills at that level will probably need to be writing and trade fairs are not going to satisfy that. What I see from the trade fair clinic hounds is more technical ability and little in the way of interesting music. Anyway, the geezer is fabulous, and although there are obvious Yngwie influences there but the tonality of his composition is very different from Yngwie. But who knows, he might be a pain in the arse to work with and never keep a band together.

steve-bbb
im sure i would have enjoyed it more if the drummer hadnt been dragging it like a doom dirge and the bass moved off the low B just once in a while to provide a hint of dynamic lift to the melody at appropriate points compositionally some nice stuff in there but he said it all in 1:30 so the remaining 3:00 were just more of the same without actually going anywhere imho ymmv mcton etc etc just my 2p worth you understand Edited October 3, 2014 by steve-bbb
But he's done a lot of other things too and released two albums on Steve Vai's label http://www.officiald...ottardo.com/bio If you want to make a living as a musician you have to do almost everything offered, there's no money in albums really. Shame he doesn't gig more but to be honest, most people aren't interested in that sort of composition are they, they want shred over a blues progression. steve-bbb
Nige i take it youve heard of this chap? unlike Mr Gottardo he is now gigging with big names and being endorsed by big names, and imho all very much deservedly considering he (was) 14 (when he first started coming to media attention) there is very little to fault - great soloing and improv structure - obviously very metheny influenced but that's no bad thing - and very modest and no showboating Edited October 3, 2014 by steve-bbb
