stingrayPete1977
Both incredible musicians. Does Stevie play bass himself?

bubinga5
I've never heard of him playing bass, surely he's picked up a bass over the years though. i would seriously pay to see that.
bubinga5
ok, its not got strings, but its still an epic bass line he plays on this record. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84s_rq-6K2k
JTUK
I don't think he plays bass gtr but when you can put down a keyb bass part like he can...why would you?
Roland Rock
Played on Stevie's left hand, Boogie on Reggae Woman has one of the best bass lines ever IMO - quite Jamerson influenced in note choice, but with that lovely glitchy/gated Moog quality. BetaFunk
Both incredible musicians. Does Stevie play bass himself?
I've never heard that he plays bass guitar but i saw him at Hammersmith Odeon in 1972 (a tour promoting the Music Of My Mind LP) and he played the drums which was impressive. It was the gig that Tony Blackburn walked out of and caused a stir the next day when the newspapers were full of it. It's hard to believe that any radio DJ would have that much influence but that's how it was back then.

BetaFunk
It's worth remembering what a big part producers Robert Margouleff and British bass player Malcolm Cecil and their TONTO played in those 1970s LPs that were a massive change of direction for Stevie. Stevie undoubtably supplied the genius but Moog and TONTO played a big part in that sound.
molan
That whole episode of Classic Albums is great. Pops up on Sky Arts every now and then. In terms of 'deconstructing' a Stevie song I always get a kick out of listening to some of the parts from Superstition : http://homerecording.about.com/od/mixingyourmusic/a/mixing_superstition.htm
