BetaFunk
Just one question. Why? Warning: Those with a love for the 1960s and good music please turn off now. http://youtu.be/XqLTe8h0-jo
BassBus
Just seen it on BBC2. Until then it had been a perfect day. However the hoards will no doubt go out (or stay in) and buy it.

Roland Rock
I suppose it's so bad because you can't help but compare it to the sublime original. Brian Wilson seems to have that multi-voice thing going on like the lady on the thread the other day :-D I don't know why, but I found Dave Grohl's presence especially cringeworthy. SteveK
Well, if you're going to cover one of the most perfect pop songs ever recorded, there's high probability that flack will come your way. That said... I've heard worse!
the boy
I hate all these reproductions of old classics. I particularly hate when the do a teibute night to the Beatles or led zeppelin. The enthusiasm makes me wanna hurl. I was really hoping Jamie Callum would fall to his death from that balloon basket. It wasn't very good but I'm guessing it's hard not to take part in something like this when you are asked. In fact I'm guessing it must be a real honour. lonestar
Somebody just sent me a link to this awful piece of cheesy crap. I want the part of my licence fee spent on this latest BBC sub strictly calumny refunded. I only lasted as long as the bit where The Anita Dobson look a like that used to be in Queen appeared and had to stop. Why oh why as they say on points of view. BigRedX
Just trying to recapture the "Perfect Day" moment again… and this time failing. BBC's Perfect Day worked because it was something new, the song itself was good and not particularly well known, and the original version with Lou Reed's "singing" wouldn't have appealed to a lot of people. This time, the original was pretty much perfect to begin with, almost everyone knows it. The only fun part was trying to recognise the different performers. BetaFunk
I'm beginning to think that someone has slipped something in the water at the Beeb since they relocated to Salford. What with this and the awful Symphony of Medinah programme it looks like Auntie has to justify the expense of this orchestra and trawl it out at every opportunity. The Beeb seem to be taking music to another level. Just a shame that level isn't up. Sadly i expect them to balls up Radio 3 sooner than later. Cairobill
It's one of my favourite songs begin rant... I watched this BBC auto-tribute earlier...Thankfully, lining up these blink and you'll miss them popstars alongside the venerable greats and getting them to sp**k up the odd line against a horrific, fat headed abortion of a backing track is so anathema to what makes the original a beautiful, delicate, artful thing, it thankfully hasn't tarnished my love of Beach Boys version. But f***ing hell…this is so horrifically overproduced, over thought, over peer-group-researched and broadly inoffensive it makes me ill. And I get the point - It's meant to be a tribute to music and specifically the music that is recorded for and by the BBC, but really, the deficiencies of this recording are so stark when you compare this banal, please-everyone, rendition against the stellar original. I mean…. how can a song so gloriously personal and affecting be sung by different people, line after line…it's such a STUPID idea. Arrrrgh!!! And really, there are hundreds of other songs that would have been more suitable and less annoying. God Only Knows is one of the few songs that never needs to be recorded ever, ever, repeat ever again because the original is PERFECT. rant over Saying that, it's a very pretty visual treatment. But that doesn't make the choice of song any less ball-achingly annoying...
