[/quote] True. If the routing is as good as the picture implies (not just clever photography) I'd probably consider it as an alternative to a US Deluxe Precision and pay £1500-1600 for it. God knows what it's actually worth though! Quote

dannybuoy Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Since he doesn't actually say in the ad that it's been modded - there is a chance that the bridge pickup was added by Fender when it was ordered from the custom shop! Just sayin' Quote

EBS_freak Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 (edited) It's funny that on a Fender, using different woods on the body is considered ugly yet on a Dingwall Prima Artist it's a selling feature (albeit mostly hidden by the top and back facings) http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Prima_A_6_files/PABack.jpg I'm not a big fan of the racing strip look although having said that, I thought the green alleva with the stripe looked great. Just goes to show. The 3 part body is obviously some gimmick surrounded in tone wood mystique - maybe the two wings are from lighter piece of woods to save the thing becoming an anchor. (In early fender days I guess it would be called not wasting material). Either way it's clearly visible and that may or may not be a good thing depending upon the buyer. I'd be more upset if I was buying this in solid black to find out that lay underneath... But then again, if the bass played and sound wicked I probably wouldn't care. I fail to be excited by Fenders I guess... But hey, that's just me. And this is coming from somebody who thinks the j bass is probably one of, if not the best bass design out there. So in short, if somebody likes it and is prepared to pay the price, it'll sell... I guess. Edited October 10, 2014 by EBS_freak Quote
stingrayPete1977 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Adding a top alone will add strength back a body made from multiple pieces of wood adding a back also would probably make the body stronger than a single slab of wood, basic engineering init. Quote
EBS_freak Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Pete - we all know that there are bigger custom shop disasters out there - like a certain John English that's had industrial glue tipped over it and has been routed for humbuckers for starters... Quote

stingrayPete1977 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 (edited) Nope it would be the wood right next to the glue instead You have seen Nick's stingray he glued back together haven't you? I can happen although rare as hell. Edited October 10, 2014 by stingrayPete1977 Quote
