it's not an auction listing though so we will never know, thats if it ever sells.
True. If the routing is as good as the picture implies (not just clever photography) I'd probably consider it as an alternative to a US Deluxe Precision and pay £1500-1600 for it. God knows what it's actually worth though!

We see that all the time here in the Marketplace forums.

The market will dictate the value of the item and, if the seller wants sell, the price will be reduced until it does.

I don't really understand what the issue is...

There isn't an issue. Pete simply asked what it's worth because we'll never know due to it not being an auction listing. I explained what I think I would pay but that its hard to know what the item's 'value' is when we'll never see what it sells for...

Thats it, as im not up on fender prices I was just interested as to what people here think its actually worth, maybe it will turn into an auction eventually and we will see?

Since he doesn't actually say in the ad that it's been modded - there is a chance that the bridge pickup was added by Fender when it was ordered from the custom shop!

Just sayin'

Oops... er, no. (Meant to crop that out!)

It's funny that on a Fender, using different woods on the body is considered ugly yet on a Dingwall Prima Artist it's a selling feature (albeit mostly hidden by the top and back facings)

http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Prima_A_6_files/PABack.jpg

I'm not a big fan of the racing strip look although having said that, I thought the green alleva with the stripe looked great. Just goes to show.

The 3 part body is obviously some gimmick surrounded in tone wood mystique - maybe the two wings are from lighter piece of woods to save the thing becoming an anchor. (In early fender days I guess it would be called not wasting material). Either way it's clearly visible and that may or may not be a good thing depending upon the buyer. I'd be more upset if I was buying this in solid black to find out that lay underneath... But then again, if the bass played and sound wicked I probably wouldn't care.

I fail to be excited by Fenders I guess... But hey, that's just me. And this is coming from somebody who thinks the j bass is probably one of, if not the best bass design out there.

So in short, if somebody likes it and is prepared to pay the price, it'll sell... I guess.

Pete - we all know that there are bigger custom shop disasters out there - like a certain John English that's had industrial glue tipped over it and has been routed for humbuckers for starters...

Adding a top alone will add strength back a body made from multiple pieces of wood adding a back also would probably make the body stronger than a single slab of wood, basic engineering init. :)
Tight bond glue is stronger than wood! If you were to bend a three part body glued together with tight bond, it wouldn't be the glued bits that fail first...

You have seen Nick's stingray he glued back together haven't you? I can happen although rare as hell.
Ah yes, some serious tone glues have been used in the construction of his stingray.

The sound of wood? Nah, the sound of glue.

I've heard evostick is best for metal?

Yes... or Araldite Rapid Steel. :)
Halford's description does actually say it's for heavy metal fans...

...but not the musical kind. So Metallica fans then, I'm guessing.

The 2 things that stand out for me is why modify a rare Ltd. edition CS P bass like that to start with and to then go and try to sell it on asking £3k for it...

http://www.ebay.co.u...K%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I guess all I can say is GLWTS
Quite.
I'm sure it's very nice, but seriously, if that's a £3k bass then I am a piece of cheese.

Nice cheese listing skills. That's a thorough list. Forgot cheddar, but that's a fine list.

+1 but I'm definitely not interested in a 3 piece P bass glued up for metal that smells of cheese

And what exactly is wrong with Cornish Yarg? Hmm? Are you some sort of Yargist? You want to be careful or you'll have the Yargite fundamentalists after you.
