ash2008
i recently bought an ashdown abm 410t (the older version with celestion speakers) from ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...A:IT&ih=006 however one of the speakers doesnt produce any sound, according to him there appears to be no damage to the speaker cone or magnet though. he says i need to get a celestion 8ohm 150watt speaker, but i cant seem to find any from uk retailers. would it have to be celestion? or could i use a different 10" speaker? anyone know where and what the best speaker to get would be? bit of a long shot but would it be possible to turn it into a 4ohm cab?would i have to replace all the speakers? ash2008
guy i bought it off says hes taken it out to check for bad connections, i dont really dare check myself, unless theres an easy step by step guide.i tapped each speaker and 3 made bass drum sound whilst the broken one didnt which he says means its just had it, probably due to it being 7 years old
Hamster
bit of a long shot but would it be possible to turn it into a 4ohm cab?would i have to replace all the speakers?
Well, you could replace 2 of the speakers with speakers of 500 ohms resistance each and wire it in paralell to give you 3.93 ohms, but the two replacement speakers would only give you .79 watts each. Or you could replace all 4 speakers with 16 ohm ones, and wire it in paralell to give 4 ohms, or 4 x 1ohm speakers wired in series. Hope that helps Hamster
ash2008
Well, you could replace 2 of the speakers with speakers of 500 ohms resistance each and wire it in paralell to give you 3.93 ohms, but the two replacement speakers would only give you .79 watts each.
that seems to be an easy and cheaper option. will it being 3.93 ohms cause a problem or is it close enough to 4ohms. the replacement speakers would only give me 0.79watts?isnt that pointless
BOD2
I think hamster was being a tad sarcastic there ..... There's no way you could turn your three 8 ohm speakers into a 4 ohm cab by buying only one additional speaker. You either need to replace the one 8 ohm speaker with another 8 ohm speaker to give you an 8 ohm cab or replace all of the speakers with 4 ohm ones to give you a 4 ohm cab. It doesn't have to be a Celestion speaker, as long as the power rating and ohms are the same it will work, but it is usually best to replace like with like where possible. But you need to open up the cab before you do anything - you'd have to open it up to replace the speaker so you might as well do it before. Always best to check what is actually inside before you buy anything, just in case you've been given duff information. I don't know this cab so i don't know if it will open at the back or the front. If there are screws on the back then undo these to remove the back and have a look inside. If there are no screws on the back then you will have to undo the front grille. Once removed the speakers will probably be loaded from the front - undo any screws around the duff speaker and pull it forwards out of the cab. ash2008
thanks for the advice. i think ill just replace it with another 8ohm, keep it simple. ive had a look at the thread listing places to buy speakers but they all seem to be based in germany or usa. any reputable uk suppliers? TheRinser
Hey, www.bluearan.co.uk are supposed to be good. I got a couple of eminence betas for my peavey 210 recently form jpgelectronics. they were good, only had 1 speaker in stock although the website said 4 in stock. sent the first one through quickly and the 2nd one came in sooner than they said it would. they kept me up to date with the situation and were polite and apologetic throughout. Merton
Blue Aran are very good. Appian Acoustics do Celestion and Frank is a good bloke to natter to!
billynoband
Celestion green bass speaker BL10-100X 8ohm are only about £30. You can get them in various power ratings, unless you are using a huge amp that speaker would spread the load nicely. Protium
I wouldn't worry too much about it being 4 or 8ohm, the ABM410 is nice and loud either way Have you tried contacting Ashdown? They will sell you replacement parts directly.

You could sell the three good ones and put the money towards new speakers to put in to make it a 4 ohm, 1000w beast. 4x16 ohm Eminence @ 250 watts each, wired in paralell. That'll kick ass! Evil cab alert!!!
danlea
Just get a new 8 ohm 200W speaker from here: http://www.lean-business.co.uk/eshop/index...ex&cPath=20 Blue Aran may be good but they seem pretty expensive to me, and Watford Valves don't have the BL10-100X listed on their web page at least.
