SubsonicSimpleton
I went to look at a stentor student 3/4 DB locally recently, and noted down the colours of the string silks, with the intention of identifying them using the quinn violin database to find out what type and tension strings they were - didn't pay attention to the ball ends, and the quinn site isn't giving me a conclusive answer - it changes with each string. here are a couple of links to other stentors with decent pics http://basschat.co.uk/topic/246686-double-bass-for-sale/ this one on gumtree shows the pegbox end clearly http://www.gumtree.com/p/double-bass/stentor-conservatoire-double-bass-some-impact-damage-otherwise-excellent-condition/1083710925 E black A Green D blue G purple Can any of you shed any light on what these strings are? stingrayPete1977
Different colours for each string makes me thing of d'addario guitar strings, so could they be helicores or similar?
EssentialTension
Obligatos have a different colour for each string at the peghead but I don't now recall what the colours are.
Beer of the Bass
I think the stock strings are going to be generic OEM strings, probably Chinese made, otherwise they'd use the branded strings as a selling point.
Burg
I was tempted by this bass on Gumtree but the crack in the front put me right off.
stingrayPete1977
I was amazed at the price.........until I looked at the pictures, ouch
Beer of the Bass
I was tempted by this bass on Gumtree but the crack in the front put me right off.
Ooft! That's right where the soundpost sits, and a pro repair would likely be close to the value of the bass. Unless you're looking for a crash course in luthiery you were wise to avoid that one!
stingrayPete1977
Thats what I thought, as if it has been hit hard on the front and the soundpost was the toughest thing in line, and won!
hubrad
I don't think they specify the strings until you get a few rungs up the ladder. If I get chance I'll check when I see the Stentor catalogue.
