Here is my Harley Benton PB-50, just refinished in blue (a kind of lake placid blue).

Next up I'll relic it, just some light relic but with (I hope) a proper finish aging and hardware wear.
I am going for that Fender CS 55' relic look.

Also, the bass has been heavilly modded with all new electronic and wiring, the only thing stock is the wilkinson pickup, but I'm planning on swapping it for a Duncan Antiquity. This is my main bass (dispite the price) and I love it!

So, what are your thoughts?

Not brilliant pics, but here's my one true love.

Meet Heidi...

77 Precision. Refin in LPB with gold flake, SPB-3 pup, mirror pg and a set of nicely dulled DR Neons.
Refin and pup mod was done before I got her. I bought it the week before I came to NZ - it was waiting for me here when I landed :)

Simply the best Precision I own/have owned.
Excellent tone, not too heavy, well balanced, beautiful neck. A true gem and an awesome way to start my NZ collection

If there was a fire, this is what I'd save

basshead56, very nice crop pf basses, and that blue P is a beauty!
Thanks mate :)
Yeah, I've not really been able to avoid GAS like I thought I might- by travelling to the other side of the world I believe that I have proved, beyond reasonable doubt, that one simply cannot run away from the cursed GAS

Just waiting for my container load of gear to arrive from back home and I will have one very large collection indeed!!!
Needless to say, Mrs Basshead56 is not looking forward to said arrival!

But yeah, the 77 blue P is a true thing of beauty. No matter how many more I've gotten since, I keep coming back to her.
Just such a unique sounding and feeling Precision.
I am looking forward to A/B'ing it with my Siennaburst and Sunburst 70's P's when they get here, just to see how different the necks, weights and tones are.

If everyone could refrain from posting pictures of their Sonic Blue basses I'd really appreciate it (as will my bank balance).

Did you do the refin yourself? Otherwise for the cost of a HB + refin you could've got a Squier Classic Vibe that already comes in the same colour!
I prefer blue Ps with white or mint guards rather than tort. Having said that gold anodized ones don't look too shabby:
Ah, the inspiration for my change to my Steve Harris P:

I did, plus all the mods too, I try to do everything myself. I've tried different squier 51s and none quite fell into my taste, both soundwise and also in terms of ballance, they were all a bit neck heavy, while the body was too light. Also, this bass came with a quarter sawn neck, I had it checked by a luthier friend of mine who was very surprised by this fact.

I'm nearly finished with the relic job too, so I will be posting some pics of that later on. :)

Nice job! Maybe you just got lucky with the neck wood - when wood is plain-sawn, the cuts from the centre end up with the grain aligned the same way as most quarter-sawn pieces, i.e. with the grain going in straight lines along the neck. But if they're all this way then that makes these even more of a bargain!

Any excuse to post these photos of my workhorse - a '95 G&L SB-2 in Midnight Blue Swirl
