Yamaha BB....What is U90

Can anyone tell me what U90 means as part of the Yamaha range ? ...The info on my bass reads YAM U90 BB2024NTPT. Someone informed me it indicates it was part of the prototype build that were sent out as 'try out' basses to dealers and artists to get their opinions before general release... Sound plausible, but is it true.... Cheers....
