Annoying Twit
Which species of wood is the body of this Lakland made from? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lakland-44-01-Bass-Guitar-/361083357827?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item54123eca8
Beer of the Bass
I'm pretty sure that's ash. The picture seems to bring out more of a pinkish quality than it has in the flesh, but then the maple neck looks similarly warm toned. Roland Rock
Yeah, I'd agree that that's ash

Happy Jack
Lovely to look at, but I'd be worried that you might need a crane to lift it.
Annoying Twit
When I was a teenager in my first bass-life, I had an Ibanez Artist bass. If only I had it now I had a vague feeling that it might be ash as while the Ibanez had a darker finish, it had that same 'big wood grain' look. (This isn't the actual bass - no photos exist)
ras52
The photo is a bit pinkish, but I think it's the same as the one in the main pic here: http://www.lakland.com/44-01.htm (Which is ash.)
PlungerModerno
Lovely to look at, but I'd be worried that you might need a crane to lift it.
Indeed - it is lovely to look at. The body is about average in size & thickness (comparable to a Jazz or Precision body - maybe a little smaller). Without knowing the density it's impossible to know. If it is ash that only makes it harder! of all the woods I've dealt with (not all that many) - ash could vary the most in density. That or very different trees wood was being sold as the same! I think it's a nice ash body. The Lakland listing for the 44 01 says it's body is made from ash:http://www.lakland.com/44-01.htm
Annoying Twit
The other alternative was some sort of pine. My Rockbass is made from carolena, which I believe is pine. It seems to have a similar 'big' grain. Though it'hard to see under the very thick finish. Edited October 17, 2014 by Annoying Twit
