Yep. I now have one :) just need to pick up a headphone amp at the weekend. I'm no expert but it seems like a lot of bass for the money.

Do let us know how it works out - seems like a snip at that price.

That IS a good deal. I paid £150 for mine at GAK a few months ago and was chuffed. Seems fender in Europe had a warehouse full of the black version and needed them sold. They did it through a variety of specific dealers.

Anyway the bass is not at all bad. Boring colour and a bit limited tonally, but it's well built and well finished. Mine needed a bit of a set up and some different strings, but that's pretty much the way with any new instrument.

So, is this Squier's take on a Stingray? Looks awesome vfm

Seems to be: what are the EQ settings? OK: http://www.fender.com/en-IE/basses/jaguar/vintage-modified-jaguar-bass-special-hb-rosewood-fingerboard-black/http://www.fender.com/en-IE/basses/jaguar/vintage-modified-jaguar-bass-special-hb-rosewood-fingerboard-black/

It says it's a 3 band active tone circuit - could be close to a 3 EQ stingray. But I think the Pickup is too close to the bridge.

I bought one 'kind of by accident' a few days ago http://basschat.co.uk/topic/247306-wandered-into-pawn-shop-and/page__view__findpost__p__2584055

Yes, 3 band eq. Sounds more like a Stingray than a Fender for sure - hot pickup, quite an aggressive tone, actually and I think you are right, it is partly because the pickup is so close to the bridge. I needed to do a bit of eq fiddling to find the tone I was looking for but got there eventually. Very similar sound to a SBMM SB-14 that I had, actually, though not as good. The neck is very nice. I had a Fender Jaguar some years back and I found it too complicated for my needs. This is much simpler. If Thomann are knocking these out for £118 it is extremely good value, I think. I am more than happy with my 90 quid's worth.

and it looks like a soapbar type humbucker with exposed polepieces, rather smaller overall than a Stingray pickup. Probably more "fat Jazz bridge" than Stingray.

But it looks pretty cool regardless!

I'm glad it doesn't come in maple fingerboard, because I don't think I could resist the temptation...

I've bought a previously loved maple fingerboard neck to stick on mine, I just haven't got around to doing the necessary woodwork yet. I have put a mint green scratch plate on it though. I'll post some pics when I've done the fingerboard.

I've noticed the Classic Vibe fiesta red P's and white J's are starting to dwindle in stock in more than one place too, I think a boatload of their models are probably being discontinued.

The CV 60 Precisions were fantastic. If it had a maple fingerboard I'd have probably kept mine. Maybe it didn't work out too badly for Fender, as I now bought a Classic 50 Precision in fiesta red (albeit a weird shade of it) with maple fingerboard that is just delicious... but not that far off at all from the Squier.
I never tried the CV Jazz, 'though. I already own too many Jazzes and I have the feeling I could not resist. Again, had it come in maple, I'd probably own one too :-p

Squier CV Jazz, shell pink and maple... I'd buy TWO!

I'm the same - biased towards the sealed maple boards. Only have one ATM :( but I'll slowly replace what I have with them over time!
