Annoying Twit
Isn't this rather less than they usually go for? http://www.thomann.de/gb/fender_squier_vintmodjaguar_bass_hb.htm
throwoff
Indeed it is, I assume fender have discontinued it and blown the stock out to Thomann
MrBen
Yep. I now have one just need to pick up a headphone amp at the weekend. I'm no expert but it seems like a lot of bass for the money.

philw
That IS a good deal. I paid £150 for mine at GAK a few months ago and was chuffed. Seems fender in Europe had a warehouse full of the black version and needed them sold. They did it through a variety of specific dealers. Anyway the bass is not at all bad. Boring colour and a bit limited tonally, but it's well built and well finished. Mine needed a bit of a set up and some different strings, but that's pretty much the way with any new instrument. hamfist
Always thought these would be a very versatile bass if you snuck a P pickup in there in the std Fender position, which looks "free". The Pickguard will cover any routing.

OK: http://www.fender.com/en-IE/basses/jaguar/vintage-modified-jaguar-bass-special-hb-rosewood-fingerboard-black/http://www.fender.com/en-IE/basses/jaguar/vintage-modified-jaguar-bass-special-hb-rosewood-fingerboard-black/ It says it's a 3 band active tone circuit - could be close to a 3 EQ stingray. But I think the Pickup is too close to the bridge.
Paul S
I bought one 'kind of by accident' a few days ago http://basschat.co.uk/topic/247306-wandered-into-pawn-shop-and/page__view__findpost__p__2584055 Yes, 3 band eq. Sounds more like a Stingray than a Fender for sure - hot pickup, quite an aggressive tone, actually and I think you are right, it is partly because the pickup is so close to the bridge. I needed to do a bit of eq fiddling to find the tone I was looking for but got there eventually. Very similar sound to a SBMM SB-14 that I had, actually, though not as good. The neck is very nice. I had a Fender Jaguar some years back and I found it too complicated for my needs. This is much simpler. If Thomann are knocking these out for £118 it is extremely good value, I think. I am more than happy with my 90 quid's worth.

Probably more "fat Jazz bridge" than Stingray. But it looks pretty cool regardless!

dannybuoy
I've noticed the Classic Vibe fiesta red P's and white J's are starting to dwindle in stock in more than one place too, I think a boatload of their models are probably being discontinued. Conan
What a bizarre-looking bass! How long has that particular variant been around? I've never seen that pickup arrangement on a Fender bass - let alone a Jag!

Maybe it didn't work out too badly for Fender, as I now bought a Classic 50 Precision in fiesta red (albeit a weird shade of it) with maple fingerboard that is just delicious... but not that far off at all from the Squier. I never tried the CV Jazz, 'though. I already own too many Jazzes and I have the feeling I could not resist. Again, had it come in maple, I'd probably own one too :-p Squier CV Jazz, shell pink and maple... I'd buy TWO!
