NCD - TKS S112s

After hours of browsing the net for info and many emails back and forth - i decided to give these a try.
As UPS only dropped them off this morning, i've not given them a thorough test. But will just say my initial impressions are that the build quality is as good as i have seen from ANY guitar/bass cab. The fit and finish are perfect. The attention to detail is remarkable. They just sound like proper, decent bass cabs should, IMO. The bottom end is focused and round and the mids and highs are lovely and clear - without a tweeter. Just noodling on my Precision with flats you can hear that it will be a match made in heaven. I've not spent long playing them, but straight away they just had that sound.

The process of buying them was far easier than i had anticipated too. Tommy, the owner, answered all my emails very promptly and in perfect English. He was a real gent and talked me through whole process with patience. The whole process took two and a half weeks or so. The were shipped on the 18th, saw a bit of Denmark and Germany and arrived today, really well packaged, via UPS. Put it this way, i have had more difficult, drawn out processes ordering from the UK.

I'll report back once i have rehearsed and gigged them.

Stunning... The mids and highs on these things are a joy to behold. Running one on its own sounds fantastic, but running the two of them is like an exponential increase in awesomeness.

So you like 'em then? ;)

Haha. Thanks for your input pre ordering too. I can't wait to hear them with a band. They're going to sit very well I think.

Lovely set up mate!
So you went without tweeters too?
I came very close to getting some of these a little while back, but life got in the way, as it does, maybe next year.
Anyway, I was wondering if I could live without a tweeter, so I'm very interested to hear how you think the compare to gear you've had in the past once you've had a bit of time with them.

Cheers,
Eude

I'll get back to you. WoT might be better placed to answer in the meantime? These are the first cabs I've had without tweeters for a while, but I'd gradually been turning them down and then off. My initial reaction is, I'm not going to miss them. The mids and highs are so nice and musical, I think the cabs are going to work wonderfully in a band. The higher notes already really sing without the tweeter.

Well...there's a place for tweeters, and they're really a part of some people's sound, but personally speaking I don't miss them one jot. Even on all the Berg cabs I've owned, I just found them clacky. And when I rolled the tweeters back, I always felt I was left with lows and no clarity.

The TKS's have upper mids which seem to let the character of the bass bloom, without any fizz. If you need more, pushing the upper mids and highs on the amp gives you more clarity, with all the brittle unpleasantness rolled off in a really natural way.

It's a godsend for flats, 'cos it leaves that 'woodiness' intact, and with rounds I can get a growl which sits perfectly in the mix without any harshness.

Here's a couple of clips which I think / hope illustrate the point. The first two involve my S212, which sounds just like my pair of S112s did.

Jump to 1m30s on this for the nearest I'll ever get to slapping. Which is really nothing of the sort, but...

Nice strong looking handle there...
Looks a lot like a Barefaced handle. I can feel the haters coming to bash the handle placement.

Maybe they're waiting to see if any handles fail. FWIW, mine's still in excellent nick a year on. Mind you, the cab weighs nowt.

I was planning on an Aguilar SL112 but the emergence of TKS has definitely thrown a spanner in the works. I'd very much like to hear anyone's view on the comparisons between the TKS S112 and an Aguilar SL112 if anyone has had the chance to try both.

I must say that I really like TKS threads. Just lots of nice compliments and happy customers - no nasty comments and sh1t-stirring from people who have never used the gear and have no intention of ever doing so!

Keep it up folks! :)

Thanks guys, and as you know as much as it does help, it doesn't really help, if you know what I mean.
You have fueled the GAS, again...
