EBS_freak
Do Promenade still stock Marleaux JBs anybody know? They seem to be the distributor still but they don't seem to have anything on their website - I know they made a separate Marleaux UK website... but I don't know where things stand now?! stingrayPete1977
The 2011 5-string US Standard Fender Jazz Bass in sunburst with rosewood was one of the few basses I've had and sold that I wish I'd kept now. I loved it.
here's hoping I find such a bass, I promise to keep it too

stingrayPete1977
I was going to look at a Jabba when I bought my first SR5 but the heavy snow stopped us getting to bass direct! I still like them.

stingrayPete1977
Which branches though, which one are you visting? I've found in the past that the stock list is nonsense but that can go either way, although not listed they might have an oly white deluxe with rw board after all. dave_bass5
I used to have a dj5 ,lovely bass but I thought a little polite also in sound.nice neck and fretboard though
Yes, exactly what I thought. I really, really love the necks I've never played a JO5 but by all accounts they have a bit more character to them. Damn, I've now got GAS and I only got my Yamaha 2 weeks ago :-(

It is probably too much of a detour off the M25 on our way to Twyford tho'
stingrayPete1977
Ah well mine will be the Birmingham one anyway, I cant see it comparing to your Sei basses anyway can you? The lure of the F USA Deluxe badge is tempting me in but I suspect the build and playability of the DJ5 will make the sale!
stingrayPete1977
I wish this was in stock at my store to try, and the Deluxe version is still pre order only http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/bass_guitars_detail.asp?stock=12031010420658
stingrayPete1977
Does anyone know if the Lakland DJ5 comes with a gig bag or case? If anything I would be trying this at the Epsom branch JTUK? JTUK
That is why I am not too keen to pay the new price for the Fender...as I could wait for another Sei but I do fancy the Deluxe at a price I can bare. The Sei's are substantial pieces of work and you know you are wearing one... Not so much weight as I don't find them heavy..I have no idea how much they weigh, but they feel 'authoritive'.. Mind you, so do MM Sr5's and the Deluxe, to my mind. The Deluxe has a cosmetic thing, I quite like..all others things being acceptable.. and to get a sunburst, RW Block and Bound Sei is likely to cost me a commision and the best part of £3k. I may well still do that, but I remain interested in the Deluxe as I like the sound I hear. I am hearing modern vintage ..ie suitably woody but lots of attack. This will compliment my 2 Sei's which do Marcus Miller slap and vintage well enough for me. The Deluxe sounds like it has a bit more aggression altho my RW could get close, if I really wanted it to..maybe. But I like what it already does.. So..GAS it is... and this thread is feeding it. I have gone off the DJ5 from a sound POV. Too kind and not angsty or weight enough, typically so deffo needs a pre amp. But the fun is... I'll try a few next week.
I wish this was in stock at my store to try, and the Deluxe version is still pre order only http://www.guitargui...=12031010420658
I have a Sei like that...but MoP and bound .. the tort plate is killer and even tho I take a fancy quilted Maple birdseye jobbie out as well..the one that gets all the attention is the White body/tort and RW..!!! But the closer you get to both...you notice the little things that MP excels at.
stingrayPete1977
I do like a solid feeling bass, my 2007 SR5 is bit too heavy but is also my best sounding Stingray and can almost do a smooth thump even though it is the only ceramic pickup equipped Stingray I have and they are meant to be grittier, I think maybe it can be but if you back off the treble it smooths out where the Alnico ones dont? The polite DJ5 thing might not be an issue as I would be using a Stingray for anything dirty! I liked the 55-01 but that was a bit polite too but then again it was to be my main bass at the time so I was looking for something else, the 95-14 is in stock at B'ham but in my least favourite finish of the three options or else I reckon I would end up with that! dave_bass5
I had a 55-01 and thought it sounded a bit bland as well. I even upgrade the preamp but I think the pups were the issue. Lovely bass though. This was the first tie I had ever heard of Lakland, and I went for that over a Sandberg PM5. All this talk of the DJ5's tone is what I heard, and I'm not sure why this was. The pups were Hansons and not Fralins, but the JO5 I tried a couple of years later sounded quite different, and this also had Hansons in it. dave_bass5
Yep. First time I saw them was in the Bass centre in London. I went in there looking for a 5 sating, with about £2000 to spend. Ended up playing everything they had, and came away with the 55-01 (and a large wad of cash still in my wallet). I'd love to try a 55-02 one day. stingrayPete1977
They are great basses, the sky line range is equal to anything made in the USA by fender or musicman ime. The 55-94 ones are the nuts.
dave_bass5
They are indeed. I've had 5 Laklands and none had any issues, can't say the same about some Fenders ive had. I was looking to see who still stocks Lalkand, I now fancy a JO5 or the current equivalent in natural and maple, but can't find many. I'm surprised Thomanns don't have any. Shame the one at Guitarguitar doesn't fit the bill I could handle £14 a month.

MrT-Bass
Hi Pete, Have you seen this Sandberg at Bass Direct... http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Sandberg_TT5_Creme.html I'm seriously tempted but my ideal spec is black with a tort or parchment scratchplate and Sandberg Alnico 5s. For £600 less I could go for this one though!! I'm currently playing a Shuker Jazz with Aaron Armstrong Dual Coils (check the spec here) and it sound amazing...I could say that I don't really need another but to get that vintage vibe, I'd really like a Sandberg. Fenders JBs haven't really done it for me...not with frets anyway. Good luck with your search Edited October 30, 2014 by MrT-Bass
