cameltoe
Suddenly found myself with an urge to try a 32" scale... Has this happened to anyone else? I'm trying to find out what my GAS choices are, but Google is coming up pretty thin, apart from this: Anything else I could be looking at?? Mr Anthony
Aren't the Hagstrom Vikings medium scale?

Paul S
I have just fallen for medium scale big time. I bought an 80s MIJ Squier 32" scale Precision which is not only medium scale but slightly scaled down proportionally in size - so extremely lightweight with a narrow neck. it just feels 'right' for me - to the extent that I am trying to track down a Jazz to match. You can get medium scale Fender Jazz direct from Fender Japan and I must admit am extremely tempted to cash in some of my cheaper basses and get one. http://www.fenderjapan.co.jp/jb62m.html I have another medium scale bass - an 80s Aria Pro II CSB 450 'Black n Gold' which is a joy. There were a few 80s Japanese medium scalers dotted about in the various ranges - some Westones, some Aria Pro II.
Count Bassy
Look at the Fender Urge Mk 1 (assuming second hand is OK) Mex and US versions. Both very nice basses. I also have a Westone Quantum which is also a very nice bass, but again only 4 strings. Unfortunately only ever available as a 4 string and I've moved onto fivers, so back on 34" scale. Paul S
Keep your eyes peeled! They pop up here occasionally. Actually the one I have now has popped up here a few times, you can work your way through the owners. I think I am the 4th BCer. Anyway, E Series, 84-86 I think, I've only seen pictures of white ones, not sure if they came in other colours.
TPJ
The Yamaha Motion MB basses are 32" and sound great. Edited October 28, 2014 by TPJ
Guest MoJo
I just sold a 1983 Westone Thunder II which I found out was a 32.25" scale but, to be honest, had I not read it, I wouldn't have noticed. It felt just like my 34" scale basses to play
Donnyboy
In my view the Squire TelecasterBass is top notch and excellent value.
randythoades
I love medium scale basses, a great balance between woody tone and long scale. Several of the Aria Pro from the 80's are medium scale, notably the CSB and TSB ranges, I have 2 CSB an one TSB. Excellent basses and crop up on ebay quite often (quite often from me as I have periodic purges to make space...!) and can be usually had for around 200-250. Also good investment, if you don't like it, you can sell it for around the same unlike than a new Squier. I built my own pbass using the Squier tele bass neck. Really good quality neck and lovely feel. I needed to route out an extra inch or so in the neck pocket and pickguard to get the neck plate screw holes to be approximately right then moved the bridge back about 5mm to intonate properly. Works a treat although I cut a small chunk off the top horn to get strap to balance better - an aftermarket natural body so was no problem. Because the pickup is now effectively an inch closer to the neck the tone has changed, slightly richer and deeper and has attracted good comments from band. Prefer the Arias to play though as string spacing closer at bridge than pbass
Musky
Another recommendation for an Aria CSB from me. I used one as my main bass for years, and only stopped recently just because I fancied a change - it's still sitting next to me as my go to bass for practising. One thing to be aware of is that the 300 and 380 have more aggressive pickups than the 450, which has a more balanced sound.
BassHappy
Hey Bass Chatters Good day! Nice to see some definitive medium scaler action on here. I am exclusively a medium scale player and I have 16 soon to be 17, all mediums except my Rob Allen Mouse, which is a shortie. Here are a few.... I am having a Fender Performer built for me in medium and the build diary is here: http://www.talkbass....-build.1103935/ There is a build diary on the basses, simply go here: http://www.innertainment.net Click on the bass you would like to check out and keep scrolling down! pantherairsoft
My Roscoe is 32" scale... and up for grabs... do it! 32"is the way though. The difference between 32 and 33 feels far more beneficial than the move from 34 to 33. I love 32" scale.
