Fuzzbass2000
Anyone point me in the direction of short scale flats similar to the Fender 9050L (feel / tension) Got LaBellas on one short scale bass, but want to use the something like the Fenders on another bass. Any recommendations gratefully accepted.
Billy Apple
What tension would you class the La Bellas, and what the Fenders?
pfretrock
Last time i put short scale flats, I used long scale cut down. You lose the taper but they fitted the tuners OK. 105 gauge did not fit on the post too well, but 100 was OK. my reason: more easily available and much cheaper. They were XL Chromes. TI flats are lower tension than XL, I have them both on a long scale. No idea on Fender.
pfretrock
Actually I've just checked. ADG were longs cut down and E was a short scale, so a mixed set. Not sure if a cut down E will fit. I'm sure someone on here has mentioned it before though. Short scale flats were hard to find of the right gauge for me.
3below
I have pyramid golds on my short scale bass - seem very good. Much as I like TI flats (on every other long scale bass I have) they just did not have sufficient tension for my taste.
I know tension's probably the wrong word but i find he LaBellas to be stiffer than the Fenders. It'a also the material... both are steel, but the Fender's feel different... more pliable. I've used Roto and Chrome flats and think them too stiff. My Ric has TI's and they're pretty loose. Do Fender not do flats?
redstriper
I like these, I don't find them too tense and they feel and sound great - http://www.stringsdi...ngs-96658s-p789 . I play reggae and they are ideal for that and very similar to GHS Precision flats and Lakland flats. You might prefer the Status flats mentioned above and they are cheaper and available in the lighter gauge. I've never tried them, but I would be interested to know how they compare. pete.young
I have Status half round on my duesenberg star short scale, really good sound, not completely dead but not zingy in the slightest. Medium length because of the tailpiece. A bit more tension than the ti flats I had on my precision but not as much as chromes.
